Attack Lyrics

I won't suffer, be broken, get tired, or wasted
Surrender to nothing, or give up what I
Started and stopped it, from end to beginning
A new day is coming, and I am finally free

Run away, run away, I'll attack
Run away, run away, go chase...

I heard this one interpretation, thought about it, and it makes a lot of sense, so I'm going along with it.
The song is about drug addiction.
"I won't suffer [from the need], be broken [by the drugs], get tired [of staying sober, or maybe living] or wasted [this one's pretty obvious],
surrender to nothing, I'll give up what I started and stop it [drugs again] from end to beginning
A new day is coming [a new day, a new life, yadda yadda] and I am finally free [from it]
I would have kept you forever, but we had to sever [pretty obvious again and so on]
And then again the bridge can confuse you a bit, BUT it still makes sense, if you think about it.
Your promises, they look like lies [like when you're on drugs, everything seems better, easier, it's as if they promise you a better life, but that's not true obviously]
Your honesty, like a back that hides a knife [same as before, basically the drugs "show" you how good it can feel when you're high and back-stabs you by making it even worse than before afterward]
I promise you [here again, he promises to quit]
And I am finally free [and then he finally does :D]

Anyone who said that this song is about freedom is absolutely correct, but more specifically, it's about not relying on anyone or anything.

"I would have kept you, forever, but we had to sever"

"I'm losing control now, and without you I can finally see"

"Your promises, they look like lies
Your honesty, like a back that hides a knife (knife)
    I promise you (promise you)
    I promise you (promise you)
    And I am finally free"

All of these lines refer to someone or something Jared Leto has "freed" himself from. He is stressing individual thought, self-reliance, non-comformation. Ralph Waldo Emerson said it best, "To be great is to be misunderstood." Leto has basically taken these words and run with them.

I agree with anonymous, but all the other theories are good too. The song in fact is about freedom.

Jared says himself, but what lyrics gives this away?

I won't suffer, be broken, get tired, or wasted, surrender to nothing or give up what I started....and I am finally free.

to be free is to not give anything of yourself away or surrender to anything or anyone.

This is about a relationship that ended. It could be between two individuals or a internal battle of something or someone holding you down and you basically setting your foot down and not letting it or them bring you down. Like Jared said its about freedom. From who? Now that is the real answer only the listener can form. I personally see it as a relationship that ended between two people and hes not gonna let all the bad things that follow destroy him. "I'll attack" "We had to sever" "I wouldve kept you forever" i prefer to see it as that.

I believe this is about overcoming our self destructive tendencies; our fears; our inner voice that lies to ourselves. It's about creating new ways of thinking, and discovering ourselves in a new day.

its about renouncing god and saying that he can finally see now that he's done that, he's no longer a sheep. "your promises look like lies" heaven and hell dont exist. and if they try to bring him back (xtians) he'll attack

i believe it's a boy, who left a girl he truly likes, maybe cause she died(?), and now he's with some chick he doesn't, hence, "I would have kept you forever, but we had to sever". and "IT ended for both of us"
    so yeah 8U
and he's leaving the new girl

Jared Leto sad: 30STM is an artwork. The Song, the Melody and the Visuals.

So i'll think its a mixture of all ur theories.
The girl in the video, which stands also for drugs.
The narrator tries to breaking free from the relationship between him and the subject (The girl what affects like a drug)

Umm... I don't think that its about drugs. When it says
"Run away, run away, i'll attack"
I think it's about conflicting emotioms inside of the person. How would that have to do ANYTHING with taking drugs??
If you really think about it, it could be about how the US is always helping other countries and attacking instead of running away i dunno i just know i like the song.

In my opinion there is no absolute interpretation for this or any song. It is a piece of art and art's content is subjective to the viewer and their life, their views, and beliefs.
To me though I feel that this song is is about coping with depression and anxiety. When he speaks of having to sever and that it would kill them both i feel like that speaks of suicide. If he didn't separate himself from it, the depression and anxiety would have killed him. I think the chorus is consistent with this thought. He wants to his self negating thoughts to run away. Attacking them is a metaphor for his anger and hatred for such feelings

hi i;m from puerto rico so im not that good at english and im 13.(girl)

This song is the first time i heard it and it was very interesting i think:
Is saying at first,im a person im not a thing that can be broken and i wont be with you,but i wont give up and even do it might hurt i will finish what i started then tomorrow is a nother day whit a nother life.
I will run away and there i will show what i can be run away and you will have to change from what you are
You would be with me but it ended all so fast that im losing control but is better to be without you.
I will run away and there i will show what i can be run away and you will have to change from what you are
your promisses were imposible so they loked like lies your honesty hurt cause it wasent even the truth and i promisse you that im finally free from you
    (you can be anybody)

Videos have nothing to do with the song. This band says themselves that there is no exact meaning for their songs. This one is about freedom. But can be taken on different levels, this is not a typical song about a girlfriend/boyfriend thing.

I think this song is about the end of a relationship, and he's angry and a bit bitter that he made all the effort and she still walked away. 'I would have kept you forever' shows how much he loved her, but he's saying he won't let it break him-'I won't suffer, be broken' and saying she can runaway from the truth but if she wants it spelled out he will attack. The album that this track comes from was written around or just after he split with Cameron Diaz, so an element of them could be mixed up in this, don't know if this is right or not, it's just how I interpret it.

The song does not have some hidden evil meaning, and it is not about a relationship. You might describe The Kill as a song about a relationship, but it is one with yourself.

Anyways, it is about breaking free of people that judge and critize you, and showing them what you can be.

"Fuck the non believers"-They said it themselves.

I'm not really sure what the song actually means, but I think it might be something like just starting a fresh kinda thing cause you know how they say a new day is coming and I am finally free. yeah well that's what I think anyway :P

It's about a girl who getting sick of her current life (a b**ch, maybe, from the video) and wants a change, so she plans to make an "attack" (maybe to her boss) to gain freedom.

This interpretation has been marked as poor. view anyway
