Outer Space / Carry On Lyrics

I can still taste the ocean
Like it was today
You said please keep on holding
Your hands and the rain it came too soon, I will wait for you
To love me again.

I guess I was running from something
I was running back to you
Lost here in...

I feel as if "nothing like the rain when you're in outer space" somehow has to do with not taking things for granted. Like rain in outer space is such a peculiar thing and if you ever could be able to see it you wouldn't want to miss a moment of it because it'd be so peculiar yet so beautiful at the same time. I feel in this song someone somehow took something/someone for granted and when they/it finally had the courage to leave the person realizes how wonderful they actually were. As for the carry on part of the song I feel like it's about getting over that pain you feel inside trying to move on and be happy again. Not saying that it's going to get better really fast but over time "you know it's gonna get better" just like the song says.

I think Outer Space is talking about love and loss. The lyrics “The darkest nights never felt so bright, with you by my side” is about how someone’s life was dark until their love came along. But then their love left hence “Nothing like the rain, when you’re in outer space” a similar meaning to you don’t know what you had until it’s gone. Carry on is just about moving on with your life

Outer Space/Carry on is a really unique song and it's really hard to understand the meaning of it. In my opinion it is about a relationship that is over and one person is still in love with the other and not able to move on. I feel like outer space is like looking back at the memories this relationship used to have. And that person is looking at all those great moments like "the darkest night never felt so bright with you by my side" describing how it felt when they were together. In the lyric "Nothing like the rain when you're in outer space", rain describes their pain. Like the pain they feel when they are looking back at those memories. And they feel like they are stuck in outer space, because they can't seem to move on from that person. At the start "the rain it came to soon" symbolises how their relationship ended too quickly and the pain came sooner than they have expected. In "Outer Space" it describes not being able to move on, while in "Carry On" it shows how that person slowly started to get over that break up. With the lyric "you know it's gonna get better" it means that it will take time and it won't be easy but it gets better and eventually things will be alright.
Of course that is just what the song means to me and I could be really wrong. Still this song is beautiful and the perfect way to end the album.

Personally, I see the line “nothing like the rain when you’re in outer space” as way of finally getting to embrace something in peace. I’m not quite sure how to explain it but rain is either a symbol of turmoil or of cleansing. “If you can love me again again, I can let go of everything” I think that ‘you’ can be represented as anything, whether or be a person you’re close with or an emotion you haven’t felt in a while or literally anything. With that being said, it could be seen as you’re looking at a situation from outer space (from the out side) and are finally able to come to terms with it and embrace it fully, and you gain a sense of peace. Every living thing needs water to grow, and now with the rain, you can grow, you can let go and accept what has happened. This is just kinda of what I’ve interpreted it as, but it has multiple meaning to it when I’m listening to it at certain times. I love how it has a different meaning to everyone.

Outer Space / Carry On by 5 Seconds of Summer, the real meaning is seen at songfacts website. The latest comment, I think you really analyzed the lyrics of this song. However, I think it's also a love song because the individual is waiting and asking for someone to love them again. But I liked your interpretation for this song too.

I have such a hard time interpreting "Outer Space". I think it has to do with something impossible, or highly unlikely. Two things that would or should never be together join in a very beautiful way.
I feel like it's not a love song but about a place or emotion... something that ties you to home when you're far but might seem random. Maybe it's about a friendship. Or a family member. Some one close to you.
I also think "Outer Space" and "Carry On" are directly related. Whatever "Outer Space" is referring to has some sort of comforting quality that makes you relax and try to focus on the good in life. It puts things in perspective.
I love the ambiguity of the song and how many interpretations it could have. I like that it leaves me with so many ideas and questions. I think that was purposeful. This song means something different to each person. It must've took a lot of genius to come up with a song like this.

Idk but i think Outer Space is somehow about a girl who doesn't love this guy anymore & the guy is waiting for her to love him again. It's like their relationship was broken but this guy wants them together again. And then he starts describing how it feels to be with her, like sung "the darkest night never felt so bright with you by my side". And when they sing "nothing like the rain when you're in outer space" i think he's trying to say that the pain is the rain & outer space is somehow the girl. i feel like he's saying that there's no such thing as pain with the girl around him. Idk man. It's just a thought. And as for Carry On, i think it's about holding on while the pain goes on & just to "enjoy" the ride.
