   This is my favourite song by them; it is so meaningful and I feel like everyone can relate to it.
   
   This is my interpretation so it may not be fully accurate but I think I unravelled the main theme and story line of the song.
   
   To summarize briefly, it's about a boy who teaches a girl how to let go of insecurity and live a more exciting life .
   
   She sits at home with the lights out
   She's alone in a 'dark' and 'sad' place that she has created herself. She doesn't necessarily want to be there but she's finding difficulty to escape it.
   
   Seeing life in different colours
   She doesn't know what to think about life; shes been happy, sad, angry, hurt in the past. Currently, she is at a sad part of her life, possibly even depression.
   
   I think it’s time that we wake up
   The singer thinks that she needs to 'wake up' and realise that if she can make herself feel so down, she can also make herself feel happy.
   
   So let me take you away
   He wants to help her find more joy in life.
   
   We can run down the street
   With the stars in our eyes
   We can do something so easy and simple (like running down a street) and still find so much enjoyment in it. It's all how we perceive things hence 'stars in our eyes'.
   
   We can tear down this town
   In the dark of the night
   We can 'tear down' the negativity of the town even if no one else supports and helps us; even if we are criticized and put down. In other words, they could still find positivity 'in the dark of the night' meaning without the help of anyone or anything leading the way.
   
   Just open the door
   Just take a chance, who knows what could be on the other side of the door.
   
   We’ve got time on our side
   If things don't turn out how we want, it doesn't matter. We're young and we have time to correct these things.
   
   We can make it out alive
   No matter what happens, it is only as big of a deal as we make it; life goes on, we'll live.
   
   Hey we’re taking on the world
   Bring it on, throw anything you want at us; we can take it.
   
   I’ll take you where you wanna go
   I'll listen to you and do want you want to do despite what others say and where they think we should go. I'll also show you things you've always wanted to see but may have been too scared to do so.
   
   Pick you up if you fall to pieces
   Let me be the one to save you if you ever find yourself feeling sad again; maybe due to some of the things the world has thrown at us or that the places you wanted to go weren't what you expected. I'll be there to help you through it.
   
   Break the plans we had before
   Let’s be unpredictable
   Forget routines and procedures, lets be spontaneous, do something new, something, exciting something adventurous, something unpredictable.
   
   Pick you up if you fall to pieces
   Let me be the one to save you
   Repeated lyrics but it means something slightly different this time. He will still be there for her but this time he's saying this in case any of the 'unpredictable' things that did had hurt her in any way.
   
   It took so long to convince you
   I knew I had to show my colours
   It took him a long time till he could make her realise that she was capable of living a happier life. It was hard to earn her trust and the only way to do so was for him to 'show his colours'; meaning he had to be completely honest and show that he was a genuine person and really wanted to help her. He shared everything with her, his biggest achievements, his biggest fears, his biggest regrets, his biggest emotional scars. These are all his different colours; some are vibrant stories, some are dark stories. It was hard for her to trust him as she has been hurt in the past.
   
   You never wanted to be rescued
   She didn't want to change, she expressed that she wanted to be miserable, (even though deep down she didn't).
   
   But now we’re drifting away
   But he managed to convince her and her attitude and outlook is slowing changing.
   
   So let go!
   Let go of past mistakes, fears, regrets, scars, emotions and just let go (let loose).
   
   Till’ we've lost control
   And we’ll stumble through it all
   Stop trying to control everything, just let it happen, 'stumble through it' instead of trying to avoid it due to insecurity.
   
   Let’s do something new and unpredictable
   Let's just keep doing new and unpredictable things together; keep life exciting no matter what bad things happen.
