The Winner Takes It All Lyrics

I don't wanna talk
About the things we've gone through
Though it's hurting me
Now it's history
I've played all my cards
And that's what you've done too
Nothing more to say
No more ace to play

The winner takes it all
The loser...

The winner takes it all is about the divorce between the two couples in the band. The song reminisces about their lives when they made sense and how it is so chaotic now. In the song it saids the Winner takes it all, the loser standing small. Its ironic because in a divorce there is no winner, and both are standing small.

This song is about horse racing. Only one winner in a race, and if you can pick the winner you win it all. And all the losers are left with nothing and feeling small or beaten. Its shows how addicting gambling is and that you can lose everything, including your home and family. Even if you win it all one day, eventually all gamblers will lose it all and will feel like killing themselves, or becoming small. And never look a gift horse in the mouth because she may not kiss you back, like she once did.

The Winner takes it all, I think is also a deep symbolism that the Winner also take any feeling left of love or admiration that was in you for him/her. In a pocker game, when some one wins, the winner takes it all!

No matter what Bjorn and Agnetha have ever said, this was plainly written about there own divorce. Considering the song has an "other women" reference and Bjorn married wife #2 within 6 months of his divorce being final makes it fairly clear, she caught him cheating and walked out on him.

A composer, a piano, and a bottle of liquor brought out real feelings in this Abba masterpiece.
Agnetha's stunning vocals put it over the top.
    Simply the best.

After a separation or divorce, one person commits to someone else, in this case the male. (Does she kiss, like I use to kiss you.) The first woman thought she had built a home and was safe but the other woman...the winner takes it all.

it means she didn't tell him he was the daughter's father because that way the daughter could at least belong to her, when he couldn't. If he knew, she'd lose her little girl, so she didn't tell him.
