Many Shades of Black Lyrics

"Many Shades Of Black"
(with The Raconteurs)

Go ahead, go ahead and smash it on the floor
Take whatever's left, and take it with you out the door
See if I cry
See if I shed a single sorry tear
Can't say it's been that way
No, in fact...

Many Shades of Black refers to all the negative aspects of the person in question. The word 'Many' implies that said person has many faults (negative aspects). The word 'Black' represents the bad in the person; the unfavorable, detrimental or even the gloomy side to person. The word 'Shades' tells the listener that said person's antagonistic ways vary from light (not horrible but still quite mean) to dark (down right twisted), the song doesn't specify if this is the case however it wouldn't be a terrible asumption to make.

Overall Many Shades of Black is about a scorned lover realizing the mistakes of their past by pointing out the flaws in the very thing that scorned them. The phrase 'Many Shades of Black' is an obivous indicator of this. Once analysed the phrase makes perfect sense which in turn helps the listener understand the song.
