I think the song is once again about his interpretation (Cantrell’s) of his relationship with his father, whom was a Nam Vet.
My dad was in Nam and he wasn’t the best to live with and although he never really had a bad relationship, it was not ideal or great.
That is my guess.

It's clearly a song about a toxic relationship. The other person is posessive and unstable but at the same cold and perhaps sarcastic. The relationship is addictive but toxic.
