A Party Song (The Walk Of Shame) Lyrics

I took a walk for the very first time on the dark side of the dance floor,
Lit a match just to heat things up but I got more than I bargained for;

Mixed drinks, mixed feelings of elation,
I should have known it was a one night...

I think this means this could be his first real party or his first attempt at talking to a girl. He tries to hit on her, and doesn't expect things to go where they go.

Mixed drinks, mixed feelings of elation,
I should have known it was a one night invitation.

They both get drunk, but he still thinks it's real and they will go into a relationship.

Don't sweat it, forget it, everything is a-ok.
Just let it, go then its, off to find another face,
I make you come just to watch you leave,
You walk around with my heart on your sleeve.
Don't sweat it, it's over now, our time ran out.

This is him being sarcastic, saying it's alright when really it isn't. He's saying that's the way she thinks. He gets all turned on and excited just for her to leave after one time and that everyone knows he really likes her.

I took an oath, but I'm giving it up, you didn't have to see things my way.
Nothing more than a casual fuck - isn't that just how we operate.

He said he loved her but he's saying screw it now cuz you don't feel the same way, and that it meant nothing to you.

Let's drink to feelings of temptation
    You and I, we're an over-night sensation.

He's being sarcastic again, saying it was a one night stand.

Outside, the brake lights started to dim,
I feel the tension that's been pulling us in.
And then we do it again, so we can feel alright.
Falling in love for the night.

They're either at another party or just seeing each other again, and they have sex again just to have sex, but he falls in love all over again.

    ALL TIME LOW:
A Party Song (The Walk Of Shame)

I took a walk for the very first time on the dark side of the dance floor,
    Lit a match just to heat things up but I got more than I bargained for;

These two lines could mean that a boy was at a party and decided to talk to a girl that wasn’t in their clique, or circle of friends, or who was uncool. They talked for a while then hooked up.

Mixed drinks, mixed feelings of elation,
I should have known it was a one night invitation.

Then Alex explains that the hooked up because they were drunk. And the second line tells us that more trouble is heading our way/the boys could only get the girl drunk and get her laid once.

Don't sweat it, forget it, everything is a-ok.
Just let it, go then its, off to find another face,
I make you come just to watch you leave,
You walk around with my heart on your sleeve.
Don't sweat it, it's over now, our time ran out.

The first line means (or could possibly mean) that the girl is upset when she wakes up after the party, and starts apologizing, thinking it’s her fault. The guys tells her it’s “a-ok”. But as the chorus continues, it explains how all the guys friends, who are all cool and stuff, are like “hey, what happened last night with that chick?” and the guys lets his friends think more happened than what really happened, so he makes up a story. I make you come just to watch you leave could mean that the girl is embarrassed about the lies the boy told, and how the boy is always picking on her with her friends. The girl is really upset because she likes the guy a lot, hence: You walk around with my heart on your sleeve. The next line Don’t sweat it, it’s over now, out time ran out, explains how the boys says sorry, and he promises he won’t do it again.

I took an oath, but I'm giving it up, you didn't have to see things my way.
Nothing more than a casual fuck - isn't that just how we operate.

These lines tell us how the dude broke his promise about not picking on the girl anymore only because of his friends, but in his head he wonders why his friends are making a big deal out of it because it was just “a casual fuck”, and that’s what all his friends do.

Let's drink to feelings of temptation
    You and I, we're an over-night sensation.

Those two lines tell us how the girl probably wanted to get the guy back, so she got him drunk and had a one night stand with him, but she left before he woke up.

Don't sweat it, forget it, everything is a-ok.
Just let it, go then its, off to find another face,
I make you come just to watch you leave,
I walk around with your heart on my sleeve.
Don't sweat it, it's over now, our time ran...

Everything goes back to normal. The guy still picks on the girl because his friend’s don’t know about the second time they hooked up, but the guy secretly is going crazy about the girl.

Outside, the brake lights started to dim,
I feel the tension that's been pulling us in.
And then we do it again, so we can feel alright.
Falling in love for the night.

The boy and girl meet again at yet another party, and they start to fight. But they realize they have feelings for each other, so they have sex again, but only because they both want to. Then they fall in love.

Don't sweat it, forget it, everything is a-ok.
Just let it, go then its, off to find another face,
I make you come just to watch you leave,
You walk around with my heart on your sleeve.
Don't sweat it, it's over now, our time ran out.
    Our time ran out,
    our time ran out,
    our time ran out.

The boy forgives the girl, and the girl forgives the boy. The boy decides that it won’t work between them, so he tells her that, and she becomes sad. The boy moves on, but the girl still loves him. Our time ran out means they had a chance to fall in love, but the guy messed it up by telling his friends lies about the first time they hooked up.

I think the title should be interpreted too.

A Party Song tells how most of this stuff happens at parties. The Walk Of Shame tells that it’s a shame how the guy broke that girl’s heart countless times.
