Paint You Wings Lyrics

When will the princess figure it out she ain't worth saving? (Saving)
Heavy the head that bears the crown
Of my mistaken, apathy for sympathy

I was never good enough to be anything but remedy
To all of your constant pressing needs
And...

I think it's more about unrequited feelings. He paints a picture of what he wanted most but realizes that she has turned out as a monster. He has been villainizing her for not feeling the same about him as he does about her. In the end, he decides to paint her wings and set her free, meaning he splits with her because it's what is best for her. He keeps saying "when will the princess figure it out, she ain't worth saving" to encapsulate his resentment that he ultimately overcomes when he sets her free. He feels used, hence the "I was a pawn in all of your games." In the end though, he realizes that she never deceived him. It had been clear since the start that the feelings were not mutual. He just refused to see it until he looked at his life.

It is about someone who wants things that are bad or dark "I painted a picture of the things I wanted most, to colour in the darker side of all my brightest hopes" and realizes that he doesn't actually like
a loved one "but there was monster standing where you should be"

He likes pie. Yep. He's painting pie and she's eating the pie.

I think it's about a girl he loves for everything but the evil side of her: 'i painted a picture of the things i wanted most' the thing he wanted most was for her to be normal or nice; 'to colour in the darker side' she's pure evil: 'but there's a monster standing where you should be' so he decides he doesn't want her anymore, but he helps her any way 'so i'll paint you wings, and i'll set you free, so you can fly away' now she can fly away and be less evil somewhere else.

I think he is referring him "painting a picture" has him making his future and his "brightest hopes". Then he " paints " a girl and he thought she was the one but then she turned out to be a monster that was ruining his " picture " so he painted her wings so she could go away.

I don't know if I explained this good or not but this was just my opinion.

He wants another girl that is not fake, or a monster (When will the princess figure it out she ain't worth saving?) and (But there's a monster standing where you should be) ; he wants someone different, that understands him more, even though he wanted the 'princess'. Now he is telling her that he is going to let go (I'll paint you wings, and set you free)

The song is about a girl who tells everyone her problems so they feel bad for her and she gets their attention and love so can just use them. But then the person realizes that the girl is just using them. So they think of all the things they want and all the people they love and realize that the girl they thought they loved was just there to use them and that she just put this fake exterior to lure people in so she can use them. So the person decides to "paint them wings" and "set them free." Which that basically meant that the person wanted this fake monster out of their life.
