Gunslinger Lyrics

Yeah you've been alone
I've been gone for far too long
But with all that we've been through
After all this time I'm comin' home to you

Never let it show
The pain I've grown to know
'Cause with all these things we do
It don't matter when...

"I reach towards the sky, I've said my goodbyes"
When I went to Afghanistan i fully excepted not to make it back alive, therefor i said my goodbyes to to the people i cared about before i left. that's what i think he was getting at.
"The stars in the night, they lend me their light To bring me closer to Heaven with you" even-though i was on the other side of the world, my girl and i were still looking at the same stars in the night sky.

This song is about the band who literally grew up together, and their drummer commits suicide so the band is grieving.

I believe that this song is about a soldier who's dying and his spirit is coming home to his wife.

If you watch the video when the service people ring the doorbell a differant guy answers and I believe that before that he knew about it therefore when the mortars are going off around him he stands there and doesn't try to stay alive because his significant other is seeing someone else but who knows it could be differant

I saw them live at the LBC and they said this song was for the troops still in action and for the ones that are home.

In my opinion, (I can only assume to be honest) this song is about a man who went of to war missing his partner. He probably is about to be sent home some time soon; "after all this time I'm coming home to you". "Yeah you've been alone", he says this which shows that he is putting what he feels down as what she feels too and is confident that in his absence she hasn't moved on to another guy. He clearly misses her every second that he is away, basically what the whole song is about and seems to be becoming rather repetitive but he knows that he can't show it due to the possibility of him being in the army and been seen as a weak link kind of thing; "Never let it show, the pain I've grown to know". However on the other side of it, there seems to be a slight change as he says "It don't matter when I'm coming home to you", almost as though he doesn't care when he goes home, unless it means that it doesn't matter when he DOES get home because he knows that the love they share will always be just as strong. He then continues to say that he's said his goodbyes, it could mean that he has said goodbye to the friends he has grown to know as they die on the battle field, but it could mean that he may be going home and he has said goodbye to his friends who he knows that he may never see again after he leaves. "I won't question why so many have died" could be another aspect of his loyalty, not only to his partener but also to his superiors. His prayers could be that that he wished that he could get home alive and well to see his family and loved ones. "I've always been true" kinda self explanatory really... though with everything there could always be some kind of hidden meaning. The next three lines or so of the verse basically explain about how he has always been thinking of her, though it doesn't say it in so many words, and how it seemed to be her that allowed him to make it through the day. "The stars in the night they lend me their light, to bring me closer to heaven with you". He could be describing his home as heaven in the way that it seems many worlds away from the hell of the battlefield, the stars could perhaps be some kind of metaphor for the eyes of the people that he loves, or the actually spirits and hearts of the people he loves, leading him home to his apparently heavenly like home with those that he cares about.

I think this song is pretty obvious, I mean "Gunslinger" Its about a guy who goes off to war,and he misses his girlfriend or wife so much, "Letters keep me warm helped me through the storm" meaning that the letters they sent were the only things giving him hope and helping him through the war. "I reach towards the sky I've said my goodbyes" I am not sure exactly what this one means, but I kind of think he is saying that lots of people have died in the war and he has said many goodbyes to them all. (someone can clear me up on that if they think I'm wrong) And "I won't question why so many have died" basically means the same thing about many dying in the war. "But with all that we've been through, It don't matter when I'm coming home to you"...."I've always been true, I've waited so long just to come home to you" means that it doesn't matter what they've been through together before, just he is coming home to her. This line "The stars in the night, they lend me their lite, to bring me closer to Heaven with you" the Heaven part kind of confuses me, I mean "closer to Heaven with you?" Does it mean that she is dead? It doesn't sound like it the rest of the song? Or does it mean that he is closer to her and to God? I don't know about that one completely. Well, that is basically what the song means, and it can't be any clearer than that.:)
