You and Me Lyrics

It's been a real long time since I've seen you girl
It's been a real long time in another world
I've got scars to prove that I don't need you
but my heart knows that I always do

You and me
Can never be
We're forever leaving
You and...

I think it's about a past relationship. One that changed his life, his heart. "I've got scars to prove that I don't need you, but my heart knows that I always do." I think its a more beautiful and realistic way of saying that "the heart wants what it wants." He's acknowledging that he loves/loved her, but is also acknowledging that perhaps that relationship was toxic. If someone gave you emotional scars, you don't need to have them in your life, even if you want them. He comes to the conclusion that it's never meant to be and he's moving on

I think he broke up with a girl, it was hard for him and he knows they're not ment to be but he still loves her with all his heart.

I think this song is about a man who has broken up with his girlfriend quite a while back, thinking they were not right for each other or there was too much fighting or confusion between them. Perhaps he has left with a broken heart, and they both said things they didn't mean, but later on he realizes that she really is the only girl for him, and he is unable to move on even after trying.

I think this song is about moving on...looking back on a broken relationship: the good and the bad. He is left with scars and a conflicted heart and, yet the song is hopeful and upbeat, which I believe he has come to terms and beginning to move on.
