Lovely Lyrics

[Verse 1: Billie Eilish & Khalid]
Thought I found a way
Thought I found a way out (found)
But you never go away (never go away)
So I guess I gotta stay now

[Pre-Chorus: Billie Eilish & Khalid]
Oh, I hope some day I'll make it out of...

in my interpretation, this is probably about depression. when she sings about finding a way out, it's her thinking she's found a way to get away from the depression controlling her life. Although she thinks this, she still knows the depression is still there, and she might as well stay like this. she begins to sing in a crescendo, showing her sense of hope she will get out of this situation no matter the case

i seen through the music video, a metaphor for the depression as a rain cloud hovering over them and filling the glass box they are stuck in with water that starts going over the box (maybe the box is Billie and Khalid's feeling of isolation and being iced out from people because of the depression)

In my opinion this song is about mental illness. It talks about how they always try to find away out of the thoughts they have but everytime they get close, it never goes away. They are willing to fight 100 years to get better but in the real world, they will still be scared. When they say “isn’t it lovely, all alone” they mean how they mental illness is part of their lives and their happy being miserable. Heart is like glass cos it’s easily shattered. Mind made of stone (stone head) cos their on drugs like anti depressants. Mental ilness slowly tears them down until they are bone, but it’s always a peace of them. It is home. “Hello, welcome home.” This song is pretty much about how mental ilness will always be part of our daily lives. We have to start expecting that it’s normal and not odd.

I watched it on 13 reasons why and I can't help but link the lyrics to Hannah and Clay. I think what Hannah means when she says,"Isn't it lovely, all alone
Heart made of glass, my mind of stone
Tear me to pieces, skin to bone
Hello, welcome home" is that she's all alone like how she was when she killed herself and it is about her excruciating pain when she says welcome home, she's welcoming Clay for now even he has an idea how it must have felt.

Yes I most definitely agree that it is pertaining to depression. Wish more artists would sing about it. This song has been on repeat for days!!!

She is in an abusive relationship and doesn’t know how to get out...... she isn’t strong enough. She wants to get out even if it takes 100 years. She says how lovely it is because this is all she knows. She thinks this abusive relationship is normal.

Heart made of glass, my mind of stone. That could mean that your heart can be broken easily but your mind can't because it knows better. For example your heart got broken after a break up and your minds telling you not to go back to him/her eventually you do because your heart wants him/her to fix it but you get hurt again.Mind made of stone basically means that your mind knows more than your heart basically

"This is referring to the music video only. I interpret this music video as a symbol for mental illness. Every-time you think you're close to the end, or that there's room above you to get better, the box becomes more and more enclosed and you end up right back where you started. Its like an endless battle and trap that you can never get out of. The box in the music video represents being iced out ... the lyrics express that beautifully as well... gave me chills"- anonymous

I completely agree with you, and it reminds me of the story of the scientist.
There was a scientist who was giving a speech about the earth and a lady in the crowd decided to contradict him.

The following anecdote is told of William James. [...] After a lecture on cosmology and the structure of the solar system, James was accosted by a little old lady.

"Your theory that the sun is the centre of the solar system, and the earth is a ball which rotates around it has a very convincing ring to it, Mr. James, but it's wrong. I've got a better theory," said the little old lady.

"And what is that, madam?" inquired James politely.

"That we live on a crust of earth which is on the back of a giant turtle."

"If your theory is correct, madam," he asked, "what does this turtle stand on?"

"You're a very clever man, Mr. James, and that's a very good question," replied the little old lady, "but I have an answer to it. And it's this: The first turtle stands on the back of a second, far larger, turtle, who stands directly under him."

"But what does this second turtle stand on?" persisted James patiently.

To this, the little old lady crowed triumphantly,

"It's no use, Mr. James — it's turtles all the way down."

There is no way to find the end of our mental illness, it never ends. We can only take the precautions to help ourselves for now.
