I Want You Lyrics

The guilty undertaker sighs
The lonesome organ grinder cries
The silver saxophones say I should refuse you
The cracked bells and washed-out horns
Blow into my face with scorn
But it's not that way
I wasn't born to lose you
I want you, I...

I believe this Dylan song is about death and loss wrapped in a deceptive happy beat. The opening stanza sounds like a funeral march with:
    the guilty undertaker sighs,
    the lonesome organ grinder cries,
the silver saxophones say I should refuse you
the cracked bells and washed out horns blow into my face with scorn
But its not that way I wasn't born to lose you.
Appears to be dealing with a death of someone close and has reversed the saying of "I was born to be with you".

i believe this song is more along the lines of his courting his wife sara. it's written around the time and is on blonde on blonde along with " sad eyed lady of the lowlands" visions of johanna"( a mystical song about lower manhattan in the wee hours of the morning) i want you is a blatant public announcement of his love for her and his intentions of marrying her. at the time both were living in NYC. he met her in the NY playboy club; see tangled up in blue, " i stopped into a topless place, to get my self a beer" " she was married when we first met , soon to be divorced" dylan was madly in love with sara seeing he wrote SARA to woo her back for a year after the breakfast incident. IDIOT WIND is naturally about her a most vicious song especially if you see the video from Fort Collins but by the song's end he starts to admit it was mostly his fault. he treated her well after the divorce, was a good father to his kids and she must have loved him deeply because she never said a word about him or the marriage, from which she could have made billions. no "i want you " is a full scale laying of his feelings on the street for whoever wanted a peek at his heart at that time

the guilty undertaker sight{for the wounded soldiers}the lonesome organ grinder cries{ for the happy faces lost}the silver saxophones say I should refuse you{I can't feel sorry for myself}the cracked bells and washed out horns{what our country promised us}blow into my face with scorn{now mock my comeing home}but it's not that way{nothing is set in stone} I wasn't bone to lose you{I will fright for our freedom}I want you,I want you so bad, honey ,I want you {a cry to the lady in the harbor. the drunken politican leaps{for our votes} upon the street where mothers weep {broken wounded parents}and saviors who are fast asleep, they wait for you {advise to little to late}and i wait for them to interrupt [tell me how I feel] me drinkin from my broken cup [a mind shattered] and ask me to open up the gate for you [tell you what I can't tell you] I want you, I want you I want you so bad honey I want you [give me my life back you took away] How all my fathers, they;ve gone down [they fought the noble fright] true love they;ve been without it [never question ] but all their daughter put me down {because I can't except] cause I don't think about it [the noble fright] well, I return to the queen of spades [all alone] and talk to my chambermaid [lost dreams] she knows that I'm not afrsid to look at her [peacefull sleep] she is good to me [takes away the pain] and there's nothing she doesn't see [ no hate , no judgements ] she knows where I'd like to be [ with her] but it doesn't matter [no one will miss me ] now your dancing child with his chinese suit [old man time] he spoke to me, I took his flute {time to inbrace] No, I wasn't very cute to him, was I ? [second thoughts] but I did it, though ,because he lied [no peacefull sleep] because he took me for a ride [not looking inside] and because time was on his side [I must wait] and beacuse I I want you, I want you I want you so bad Honey I want you,,,,,I'm alive, thank God I' alive..
