Easy/Lucky/Free Lyrics

Did it all get real, I guess it's real enough
They got refrigerators full of blood
Another century spent pointing guns
At anything that moves
Sometimes I worry that I've lost the plot
My twitching muscles tease my flippant thoughts
I never...

This song is about war and how as modern (bush era) Americans it is fueled by our selfish needs and ignorance.

"you'd better shop and eat and pro-create
you got vacation days, then you might escape
to a condo on the coast
I set my watch to the atomic clock
I hear the crowd count down till the bomb gets dropped"

The song is about death I'm pretty sure.
"But it's all I'm doing now
Listening for patterns in the sound
    Of an endless static sea
    But once the satellite's deceased
It blows like garbage through the streets
Of the night sky to infinity"
The static is the sound from the deceased satellite like in satellite television a.k.a. once you die all you did is non-existent and Conor Oberst just seeing this at all times.
Don't you weep because once you die it's the luckiest, easiest, and cheapest thing you can do.
"Don't be a criminal in this police state
You better shop and eat and procreate
You got vacation days then you might escape
To a condo on the coast"
Just conform to the world, do everything you have to do, and sometimes you might brake the rules of this world and you could die for it BUT...
"I set my watch to the atomic clock
I hear the crowd count down til the bomb gets dropped
I always figured there'd be time enough
I never let it get me down"
Everyone's going to die and everyones just waiting Conor Oberst figured he'd have time to live I THINK but he doesn't know anymore those are some things you might be confused with if you are. I'll tell you more of what I think about this or other songs if you wanna' talk I'm

"Easy/Lucky/Free" is obviously a political song and left wing at that. I believe that most of it is supposed to be from a soldiers point of view. Specifically, a once naive soldier who now realizes the horrors of war, questions his beliefs and maybe even regrets signing up. At the same time though he still feels like it's better to die that way then any other, hence "easy, lucky, free" Basically this song is about the times we live in. It's satirical, in that it mocks the way a good majority of Americans think. With an ongoing and heated war many choose not to heed it's possible dire consequences and/or see them as more of a blessing then a curse.

This song is about life, even though there are problems in the world & how you should just enjoy it, before you die.
