   This song is from the "Scenes from the Southside" album, released 13 years before 9/11. It appears on the film "Backdraft" soundtrack. Hornsby has explained that it's about a girl who's always dating the wrong guy, sung by a boy admirer who watches the show from a distance.

   This song healed me when i buried my parents recently, they passed on a week apart from each other. The pain was too much i knew i just had to play this song and cry it all out on my mother's funeral which was the last. Whatever meaning it is for others but for me i took as a death coming to take my parents, and the after effect is that the show must go on i pick myself up and go on. Thank you Mr Hornsby you were spot on this one just like mandolin rain.

   I think it’s about the victims of the 9/11 terrorist events. The long list of victims. The family members crying. It seems obvious to me. But then, that’s my interpretation.

    heard Hornsby explain it is about a girl who continually dates guys that are no good for her, and the "sad eyed sisters" and others are gossiping about her all the time.
    The show is the girl and it is told from the perspective of a guy who has watched from afar wanting to date her.
