Ten Years Today Lyrics

Ten years ago, I got a call that nearly killed me
Repeat yourself, my hands are shaking
When I was told, my friend was gone I felt so guilty
A thousand questions left unanswered

I'll bleed if you want me to!
I'll serenade before I do
I'll...

Sorry about the long description, but I love this song so much.

This song is about his friend who commit suicide and this is 10 years later. The song is Matt telling the story of what happened and how he felt. In the first verse, I think what he's trying to say is that he felt so guilty because he didn't see it coming and couldn't stop it and that nobody knew why he did it. "A 1000 questions left unanswered." The second verse is talking about the funeral and burial. "I stood beside the wood that held you." Is talking about the coffin. "We let you go, with gifts of..." is burying things that were very important to both of them. The pre-chorus/breakdown "(I'll bleed if you want me to) I'll serenade before I do" is saying he'll go too as long as that's what his friend wants. I don't know what the hell "candles burn without a flame on" means... but the "final call to you, I know you're listening" means Matt knows his friend is watching over him whatever happens in the "afterlife."

Songs can mean anything, so don't be mean about this post, it's just what I got out of the song.

This song is about a friend of Matt Tuck's who committed suicide when he was 15 years old. It says it in a interview in Kerrang! with Matt himself

well, i see everybody's got the rest of the song figured, but the candle burns without a flame i think means that his friend's not there physically, but his spirit, his warmth is. that's what i think anyway

The line "candles burn without a flame on" by its self doesnt make sense but with the line before it and the line after it, it makes more sense. what i think they are saying is that while its been a long time since his friend committed suicide he still honors him and keeps his memory alive.

A death of a close friend that's anniversary of their death was ten years on that everyday. A day of pain and reminiscing.
