Hug All Ur Friends Lyrics

What's it like to be alone on a Sunday
Remembering the time you saw them just yesterday?
Sing me a song, tell me your thoughts
I could listen to you all night long
And I don't care about my sleeping routine
I fucked it up as it is but we've...

this is a beautiful song, that has brought tears to my eyes, more than once. i think Robbie, a.k.a Cavetown, is expressing his need for physical touch, something i am realizing i need more than i thought i did. the chorus says, "life's too short to worry about the things that we got wrong so hug all ur friends and let them know youre not letting go" its pretty self-explanatory. dont take for granted the "normal" things, the routine things, and dont let little disagreements ruin and break your friendship. and the bridge "know what its like to be nothing at all, when the night turns cold, my thougths feel like stone and its nothing i cant change i cant breathe anymore i forgot how to walk by myself, i could do with a little more of your help" he's admitting that he feels worthless and needs someone to remind him he matters. and that he cant do this alone.

This is just my opinion, but for me this song is about committing suicide. Not necessarily the singer, but perhaps a friend of the singer. I think of this song this way because I've had a friend attempt that and I think the song fits that narrative. In the first and fourth stanza where the singer is remembering something hints at past memories, and the eighth stanza suggests that the singer is feeling angry or some other extreme emotion, and that the second person could help if they were there. I think the biggest connection to this interpretation is the chorus. The singer says that 'life's too short to worry about the things we got wrong,' and also about the second person not letting go. Both of these in my opinion point towards some sort of suicide or attempt at suicide because the lines seem to point to or hint at that.

I relate to this song too much.

It's about the little things ruining a friendship,or being the odd one out in a friendship.
In cavetown's case,he is trans and aromantic.he probably feels insecure about it and how he is different.
I recommend this song for ppl who feel different to their friends

I personally think that this song is about having conflict with one friend and losing your entire friend group as a consequence.

"What's it like to be alone on a Sunday?"
Implies that the main character in this musical story, at least at the start of the song hung around these friends for a long while. He then goes onto have a fight with his friends ; "life's too short to worry about things we got wrong." He doesn't start wishing to hug his friends until the second verse, where he says "Did you and your friends have fun on the weekend?" Which implies that while they fought one friend, they may have lost their entire group as consequence of the fight. Naturally, he misses his friends and doesn't want to let go of them, wishing he could make it right.

    TLDR: Basically unrequited friendship

To me, this song is about messing friendships up and making mistakes that you have to learn from. There are many lines in this song that back that up. For example, when he says "I fucked it up as it is" and "Life's too short to worry about the things that we got wrong" in those I believe he's admitting to making a mistake but also isn't beating himself up over it because he knows it was simply a mistake. In the song's beginning, he also reminisces on the last time he saw someone. Towards the end, he says "I would hug all my friends if they weren't friends with you" which may be about how oftentimes a falling out between two people can cause a rift and choosing of sides in friend groups.

This song makes me think of one of my friends who used to be really mean to everyone for the validation of they’re other friend group who made them be bad to people just for their validation. Closer to the end of the year they were talking to me and told me about how their friends were treating them and I offered to let them join my friend group. I trusted them and I wanted them to be happier. We all bonded pretty quick and we are happy but my friend is still not able to drop their other friends because they are scared that those people will do something bad to them if they say anything. “I would hug all my friends if they weren’t friends with you” they told me they feel safe with my friend group and I’m so glad about that. I love them so much and I don’t want them to have to go through that again.

I think this song is about slowly loosing a friend (as many people have said). But I think it’s specifically about watching your friends become friends and with someone who isn’t good for them. You’re watching them start to back away because they’re so brainwashed. “I’d hug all my friends if they weren’t friends with you” is laced with so much hurt and anger, it’s almost like he’s sitting there at an event watching his friends hangout with this new toxic person and feeling so stuck and frustrated, unsure how to deal with it

I personally think the songs about suicide or loosing friends in general. When i say suicide i mean suicide of a friend. Perhaps the song is spreading a message to “hug all your friends, and let them know you’re not letting go” is to remind you how fast they can be gone. Or if not being abandoned by a friend. I think this as a part of the song says “i would hug all my friends if they werent friends with you” possibly implying that a friend has replaced the creator with a someone he (cavetown) doesnt get along with or in general has taken away his friend. I think the songs about the pain of the loss of a friend (suicide or abandonment)
