Lost! Lyrics

Just because I’m loosing
Doesn’t mean I’m lost
Doesn’t mean I’ll stop
Doesn’t mean I'm across

Just because I’m hurting
Doesn’t mean I’m hurt
Doesn’t mean I didn’t get what I deserved
No better and no worse

I just got lost
Every river...

It appears to me that these lyrics are sung by two different people: the powerful one, and the "weak" one.

"Just because I’m loosing doesn’t mean I’m lost. Doesn’t mean I’ll stop, doesn’t mean I will cross" Even if he's not having success, doesn't mean he doesn't know what he's doing, and of course doesn't mean he's giving up trying. He knows he might also fail. This is sung by the weak one.

"Just because I'm hurting doesn't mean I'm hurt, doesn't mean I didn't get what I deserved; no better and no worse" People don't always have an excuse for being like they are, you don't need to have had a painful past to be violent, and if you're cruel, doesn't mean you weren't corrected-you're just like that, and never changed despite all the lessons. This sung by the powerful one. (And if this song is not sung by two people, this part gets creepy because it means this "weak" person is also violent and will attack the powerful ones with no mercy).

"You might be a big fish in a little pond.
Doesn’t mean you won, ’cause along may come a bigger one. And you’ll be lost; every river that you tried to cross, every gun you ever held went off" Pretty self explanatory; be careful, no matter how powerful you think you are, don't take that power for granted because someone else might come and beat you. And you'll taste weakness and pain, as I'm doing right now. A warning from the weak person.

"And I’m just waiting ‘til the firing stopped. And I’m just waiting ’til the shine wears off" I'm waiting 'till everything's in peace to charge. I'm waiting until you're unprotected, and I'll strike.

Simply saying that just because all this is happening to him he isn't going to collapse under it. None of the bad things means that he's "lost" just a little physically lost but he has faith he'll win. He's basically saying even though all this bad stuff is happening to me, I'm confident I'll figure it out just right now i'm sort of lost and wandering because "every river i tried to cross...every door was locked..." and I'm just waiting for the "shine" (to me it's kinda like fog) to clear up so that I can't start looking again. Great lyrics!

Don't tell me what I am. You don't know me. You don't know my history. You sit on your throne and claim that you are all powerful, but your time will come. Their will always be a better songwriter, a better dancer, or a better lover. You are not the end all be all. Until then I wait.

No matter the hardships one encounter in life, that doesn't mean its the end.The writer doesn't allow his bad moments to define his entire life, he still hopes for the best " just because am hurting it doesn't mean am hurt" there is a sunshine after every storm

Every song has subjective meanings. I'm 55 and the line about the shine wears off reminds me of being a younger man. You see when you get older you skin get looser and no longer shines. Additionally you lose strength and get achey. Basically you are just getting older.

The kids that you held as babies grow up to be strong adults. The things that were cool are now old and mostly forgotten by the (shiney) new generation. They seem to have the world by the tail. So you are waiting till they grow up a bit and the shine wears off (they get some wisdom).

The part about every river that I tried to cross refers to how we get that wisdom. Meaning that we all learn by our failures and disappointments. They shape us and give us wisdom and courage.

Life/God/The Universe slowly takes away things we thought we needed. Things that make us feel like we are winning some imaginary game. It gives us all loss; and by that loss teaches us that we are complete without anything else. We are exactly where we need to be at this moment in time and we are not LOST. Even though we appear to be losing at some imaginary game of life; we certainly are not lost.

So if you are feeling like you are losing, just surrender and stop fighting and wait till the shine wears off (you gain some humility and wisdom).

As I said that is what it means to me. It came to me that first time I heard this song while I was walking in a wooded area. This is the lesson that I learned.

I hope you get something out of my story. Peace.

I was confused on what this song ment until I lived it. To me, it is about someone confused, perhaps he spoke out for what he though was right, but then he was told otherwise. Everything he did was rejected or failed(every river that I tried to cross). He was speaking out against someone who did wrong to himself or someone he loved, he knows that he is right about this "bad person" for he was mercilous( every gun you ever held went off). Then it seemed the world seemed to turn against him for speaking out(just because I'm hurtin doesn't mean I'm hurt) he got what he deserved. Who is write, who knows anymore, he's lost.

I think it's pretty straightforward and I think the first two lines explain it all.
    "Just because I'm losing
    Doesn't mean I'm lost"

And to be honest I think these are the two most powerful lines in the lyrics.

Anyway my interpretation is, the person feels that all isn't over, all hope for himself isn't lost. I feel that this is a song about his strength, hope and willpower to carry on.

It is about ignoring what other people say. They may be mean to you now, but in the future they'll get what they deserve. What goes around comes around!

Am I the only one who got Death Note out of this? Major spoiler for the series ahead.

I think it's a message from Light to Near after beating him. Basically he's saying "You've got my Death Note now (he was holding it when Light dies) and you've won my title as Lord Kira with it, don't make the same mistakes I did."

If the the "baton" it seems he's passing on is the title of Lord Kira AKA God if you don't know the series, then he's "waiting till the shine wears off", or waiting until he's just another name in the history books.

The line that made me come to this revelation was "you might be a big fish in a little pond, doesn't mean you've won, cause along may come a bigger one." Think of Light as the smaller fish and Near as the larger one. What he's saying is just because your on top doesn't mean you can't be cut down. He keeps telling him that he "just got lost," or made a fatal mistake and is warning Near not to do the same with the Death Note.

Another line is "every river that I tried to cross." It's a cute reference to Near's real name, Nate River.

Put in even simpler words, Light's telling Near to destroy the Death Note.

This interpretation has been marked as poor. view anyway
