   coldplay generally are talking about the new world order and the the leaders of this world are the freemasons . you need to understand the system in order to understand the song i hope that coldplay keep on that way .... i mean being against the system

   This song is definitely talking about the illuminati. I mean its blatant. "they got one eye on what you knew" simply means they have been watching and controlling the aspects of your life through the frame work of consumerism/media/religion etc. "and one eye on what you do" means that they are watching you. Either through paper trail (SSN, bills, etc) to what you do online on your phone and so on. They are talking about the same one eye (eye of horus, the eye above the pyramid blah blah)more of these types of songs are are coming out...Korn latests album has a song simply called illuminati. They hide messages in plain sight and their symbols. its call essoteric (prob misspelled) symbolism. :)

   Whenever I listen to this song I can only think about the new political systems to come. Democracy is dying and we all are being observed with dark purposes, probably that of controlling us (from politicians to big firms)Be careful what you say and do, even in the Internet.

   I think it’s about a revolutionary on the run from an oppressor in a dystopian world. He’s a hunted man. Hook was the villain so I guess the croc could be construed as the little guy who fought back and started a revolution; now there’s ticking all over the world and that makes the oppressor nervous. All they have to do is be spotted to be conceived as a threat and the revolutionary wants to make sure that the other person understands that they need to be vigilant in thought and deed if they are to survive. He’s either implying that he doesn’t trust the person he’s with or he’s looking out for their wellbeing or both. Trust no one. He’s got one eye out for the oppressor and one on the person he’s with.

   I know most people won't agree with me on this, but the lyrics
   "I got my right side fighting while my left hides under the chairs"
   Reminded me of the two sides of the brain. Correct me if I'm wrong but the right side of the brain is the one that controls the fight or flight, and the left controls the logical Part.
   To me it seems as though hes saying that whatever's happening he isn't thinking through logically. Just my opinion though.

   I think that this is the worst page to find accurate lyrics to a song. I'm pretty sure the first line is, "They've got one eye watching you", not "On what you knew". Seriously? That's just lazy editing...The song is about Government surveillance and control, by the way. :S

   I think this is about jealousy. "They got one eye on what you knew. And one eye on what you do, So be careful who it is you're talking to/what it is you're trying to do" could mean the distrust of the boy.

   I agree with Chintan except that I think instead of talking to his lover, since he claims to be a Christian, he is actually talking to God. Something Christians emphasize is that we keep our eye on God no matter what's happening. I think that's what he means instead of talking to his girlfriend.

    I agree--there are a number of reasons to believe that there are aliens at least in the album. One song is called UFO, there are suspiciously alien-like noises in many tracks, and Up With the Birds could be seen as a metaphor for being among aliens, along with other references throughout the album. Specifically in this track, the lyrics such as "they got one eye on what you do" sound an awful lot like they could be referring to aliens who are chasing the protagonist as he tries to flee by car. But what really cinches it for me is the climax of the song, the part with the words
    "She can't hear them climbing the stairs
    I got my right side fighting
    While my left eye's on the chairs"
    which really gives me shivers of horror. I can just see someone trying to fend off terrible creatures while they climb the stairs towards his loved one and he realizes that they're coming at him over chairs to. The pained chords and lengthy gap in lyrics after this imply a resolution, possibly the death of the song's main character.

    I think that this song uses different aspects of driving as an analogy to life.
    
    The first part of the song says that dwelling on the past can be a major distraction ("you got one eye on what you knew"), while you're trying to do something new with your life ("and one eye on what you do"). Another line that talks about the perils of indulging too much in the past is "So be careful when you're walking in the view" where "view" really means "rear-view mirror" - a mirror into the life that has gone by. When he says "
    
    Chris Martin then switches gears and assures his lover (I assume that's who he always talks to) that no matter what the "road" ahead (i.e. the future) looks like and what the dangers ("crocodiles ticking round the world"), he will always have "one eye on the road" (challenges of the future) and "one eye on you" (love/care for her).
