   My interpretation of this song is that is a guy far away from home and just wants to get to his love ones

   This is honestly, the story of my life, the luckless lover, hopeless romantic, or simply Romeo, take your pick. It's a song about a guy who's in love with a girl, and it's unmistakeable (seriously, everyone knows but her!) to everyone else, but perhaps you haven't told her, in this case, I'd say Daughtry has told her - at least that's the feeling I get from the tone of the song. But anyway, she's gone, and he's lost without her. But whenever she was around she paid attention to everything - everyone - but me or him. It's kind of like she's in denial, or ignoring you in hope of ending your affection, or maybe even in complete ignorance. Either way, she's gone, and Daughtry wants to be with her. He'd give his soul to see her face, even if it meant leaving (whoever he's with or where he's at, I'm not sure) - thus the suite case. He's looking through photographs and sees her smile, and, if you know what that's like then you'll understand, emotions run deep and regret fills up your thoughts. He wants to be wherever she physically is, whether it be miles away or not, but she's in his heart all the time.
   
   And that is the way my life has gone so far...uhhhhh.....
