Soul Meets Body Lyrics

I want to live where soul meets body
And let the sun wrap its arms around me and
Bathe my skin in water cool and cleansing
And feel
Feel what it's like to be new

'Cause in my head there's a Greyhound station
Where I send my thoughts to...

What if it has nothing to do with human relationships and is instead about something "higher" than any of us usually think about. What if it is instead about dreams, where a part of our subconscious mind, our "soul" visits a parallel higher dimensional universe, with its own unique "atmosphere", all currently invisible to our technology, that's half-way between conscious life and death. Where souls actually reside in a alternate "body" when they have no physical body to live in until we're conceived and/or born, and is where souls return to when we die. When the dream is over, our soul meets our body by returning into it again and we wake up, our subconscious mind (and sometimes our conscious mind) remembering bits and pieces of our "atmospheric" journey which he then translated into his poetic lyrics of his song. Could it be that same parallel universe is where we go when our soul leaves our body for the last time? Maybe our soul "meets" and occupies some kind of alternate "body" in this alternative parallel universe where we can meet other souls and form celestial relationships that are truly lasting, and truly forever? Maybe when we're physically alive, our soul meets a body in two different alternating universe every day and night. What if our dreams are an unedited preview of where all good people go when they die, leaving one body and meeting another body to occupy? Forever? In a unique place where soul meets body. Now: listen to the song again with your mind now thinking of these new concepts and contexts I introduced here, and see (or maybe "feel") if their lyrics make some sort of "new sense" to you that you didn't realize or "see" before.

Soul Meets Body is a very deep lyrics. I really liked the interpretation from 6/25/18.

For the recent post, very complicated interpretation. If ever I experience this, I prefer not to know that the other person has another love. Better for the other person to forget about me and not love me at all. It is a sign of dishonesty and unfaithfulness for the one person they chose to love at the present moment and for the rest of their lives.

If I really can't be with the person, I should let them go and be happy that they chose to have a life with another person. Maybe by accepting this I can forget this person and maybe in the future, I can also be with someone that I can be with and really be connected with as soul mates. Or another option, I would not have a loving relationship at all and be happy to live life as if they never existed to avoid hurting other people who are already connected with my soulmate and totally forget them and as time goes by, my love for them would diminish in time. Although I loved them, I'd better keep it to myself and not tell it to them since I can't be with them anyway. It would be a sign of my dishonesty and unfaithfulness if I still think about the other person who I truly want to be with and I would never think that they are around in my mind. If ever I choose to truly live with another person and not the person I can't be together with.

I don't even have a soul mate, no one loved me like me like the interpretations I had browsed here. No one told me that I'm their soulmate.

This song is about two people that love each other but for reasons beyond their control they can’t be together. It could be they have made their lives with other people...the thought of being together is not appropriate so they set their thoughts aside (send them to far off destinations..where they are much more suited than here). They are not just connected by body but also by soul..soul mates. They can’t be together right now and they have to continue their lives as they are (roads left in both of their shoes) but if one should perish then the hopelessness would be too much to bear and the hope would be that the other goes too. Even though they may not be together he thinks about her all the time because she’s really the only one he wants to truly be with. She’s always around...in his mind..like a soft melody in the background.

I've read and heard that this song is about the love a man has for a woman, and that if she dies, he wishes to die as well. I disagree. To me his lyrics "if the silence takes you then I hope it takes me too" speaks to me as if his love goes quiet (in a calm state) then he hopes he can reach that state of serenity too. People struggle with reaching a calm place / relaxed /free of obtrusive negative thoughts, real hard to stay in the here and now, but when we reach this place of peaceful calm, we hope our loved ones can reach it as well.

"I cannot guess what we'll discover when we turn the dirt with our palms cupped like shovels..". To mean I take that as meaning when we are young, feeling carefree and playing outdoors in the dirt, digging up and enjoying nature, this can be blissful. (Of course this is before electronics and social media dominated our lives).

This song shouts of deep unconditional love.

This song has a lot of very important parts to interpret. Firstly, "I want to live where soul meets body." Judging by the lines following "and let the sun rap its arms around me
and bathe my skin in water cool and cleansing
    And feel...
Feel what it's like to be new ," living where soul meets body is living where the perfect mix between internal and external happiness, that we as humans strive for until the day we die, is located. For the singer, living where soul meets body is living in perfect serenity with the love of his life.

    Skipping to the next section:
"'Cause in my head there's a Greyhound station (train station)
Where I send my thoughts to far off destinations
So they may have a chance of finding a place where they're
    Far more suited than here"
This could have a multitude of meanings. It could be that the person he loves does not love him the same way, and that he doesn't feel that his thoughts are validated. It could be totally different, where perhaps he knows that wanting to disappear with his love his wrong because he would disappear as well, but he needs her. This part is open to interpretation more then any part of the song.

"I cannot guess what we'll discover
When we turn the dirt with our palms cupped like shovels
But I know our filthy hands can wash one another's
And not one speck will remain"
This part is clearly talking about death. Turn the dirt with our palms cupped like shovels is to be put at peace, almost like he's claiming ownership with his love, choosing to be a peace, which leads to the chorus.

    "I do believe it's true
That there are roads left in both of our shoes
But if the silence takes you
Then I hope it takes me too"
This is a man declaring his love, stating simply that "we both have time, but if you die, if you move on to the next life... then I won't want to live" He wishes to follow his love into the dark (another Death Cab song).

"So brown eyes I'll hold you near
'Cause you're the only song I want to hear
A melody softly soaring through my atmosphere"

This is a beautiful statement. He is saying that his love for this person is all he has ever had, all he has, and all he will ever have. She is the best part of him. The only part of him that could possibly matter in a world where some thoughts and feelings just don't make sense. She is not only a melody to him, she is the melody. If they are not together, then they are nothing. If the silence takes her... then he will make the silence take him too.

More upbeat than most of their songs, this song is (once again)a love song and she is the only person he wants to be with and if she leaves he wants to leave to (the line 'and if the silence takes you then I hope it takes me too' leads me to believe this
