the first verse describes the "cold" which represents loneliness as implied by "not a footprint to be seen". The "swirling storm inside" symbolizes how complicated things got when her powers were revealed (which parallels someone's true personality being revealed, the side of someone that the world would rather not see). then she sings "conceal, don't feel, don't let them know" because she was taught to keep it in "but now they know" so there's no point in holding it in and she blossomed with power in solitude, "letting it go", which parallels the people's need to be who they really are (but in the movie, Elsa feels she needs to be in solitude to be free to be herself and not hurt anybody).
the second verse says "it's funny how some distance makes everything seem small" which actually symbolizes people distancing themselves from something or someone,making whatever they're running from seem less significant.

The character singing this doesn't have any parents.Anyway, she was told to try not to use her snow powers (hence, the parts about be a good girl,and conceal don't feel) . Now that they found out about her powers , she lets go of the idea of trying to hide them and builds and ice palace.

These videos for these songs are so well produced and the musical style and visuals make them feel so victorious in their theme. Victory from what? I took a closer looks at the lyrics at it appears to be freedom from parental belief systems.
I believe that it is a song about a child who lives with a particular set of religious beliefs.
They are feeling as though they can't always be themselves because of it.
Then the time comes that they let it all go and be themselves.
They grow up, leave home and slam the door on their way out.
They no longer care about their parent's opinions or what they are going to say.
The parents are going to be angry, it is going to cause a storm, but the fact that their parents will be angered doesn't bother them anymore.
They realize that being on their own creates distance between them and the control that the parents had through their religious belief systems no longer has an effect on them.
Now that they are on their own, they are free to do whatever they want. There is no right or wrong and no rules to to break. They are truly free.
They have let go of their parent’s values and are now a free spirit at one with the wind and sky.
Now they are truly happy and you'll never see them cry.
Regardless of what their family thinks, they will stand on their own, even in the midst of the storm of angry parents.
