Donna Summer: Dim all the Lights Meaning
Song Released: 1978
Dim all the Lights Lyrics
-
There’s a line in the bridge that’s really disturbing... “turn my brown body white, come on dim all the lights.” Imagine someone making such a request and it gives you an idea of the time (1978) when racism and segregation were still rampant. Having someone as beautiful as Donna Summer singing this made it more chilling. Still, The majority of the song celebrates a time when the disco club scene was a melting pot removing barriers of all sorts.
