I'd say the union of the snake refers to a slippery snake within someone and it's on the rise like it's getting worse and is gonna break through the borderline .... Like point of no going back. Sounds like a sneakiness in someone breaking out and could also refer to sneaky snake getting it on with someone they should not.

O.K. dirty mind here. But a man's male member is referred to as various things, lizzard, snake etc. So my brain is going toward a homosexual reference.

This interpretation has been marked as poor. view anyway

i think that the song is about secret societies like the illuminati who are preparing to get rid of most of the worlds population.
another song by duran duran the wild boys was about survivors in a post apocalyptic world - they tried to break us looks like they will try again !
good to know that such intelligent insightful observant chaps came from or were as in simon le bons case associated with brum !

I think it simply refers to the collection of a guy's sperms & the time before he ejaculate.

Simon LeBon said in an interview, sometime in the 1980s, though I forget exactly when, that this is a metaphor for not allowing your sub-conscious mind to affect your imediate task, or something to that effect.
