   I was thinking it was about his step-dad and mom. "The boss that couldn't help but hurt you" the boss, he says that alot I thought that was referring to his step-dad. "The pretty thing he made desert you" the pretty thing is his mom. I interpreted as his step-dad was an asshole who abused him and never let him see and talk to his mom. And the "looking for the man that attacked me" his step-dad "You beat it in me that part of you" Maybe his step-dad treated him so horribly Elliott kind of learned the behavior"but I'm gonna split us back in two" but he's saying he won't be like him.
   And nearing the end of the song "I'm walking out on center circle. The both of you can just fade to black" He's saying I'm done with both of you I don't care anymore I'm leaving. But this is just what I thought listening to his song. It could also be about a girl who cheated on him with someone else. Who knows though.

   I guess, it could be rejection of a man...
   
   I think of it as a memory of life in the Ladd's Addition area of Portland where Steve lived for some time. I grew up in Elliott's shadow, along with other artists who ground their teeth at Lincoln high school. X-RAY cafe and various other venues called Portland to retaliate to Seattle's fame.
   
   But lads-addition was a herald of city planning, and as a spokesman (lots of puns intended) Elliot (Steve) Smith was a worthy man... check out the "outside-inn"; his parents and will still lives. may you find peace...
