   It is a representation of Elton johns youth, which could also account for the many others that live in the southern states. Representing his confusion and being torn from what his friends and elders told him versus what his inhibition is telling him.

   Why on earth does this website allow someone using the "N" word on it. I was interested in hearing people's interpretations of this song not to hear bigotry. I'm not even sure. I'm actually was wondering if the song was racist. But I don't think the tone of the anonymous dude is very forward.

   Honky Cat is a straightforward account of being a young man torn between fame and fortune (the city) and a simpler life (Bernie Taupin was from a farming background, hence "boy you gotta tend the farm, living in the city, boy it's gonna break your heart"). It's interesting that it appears on the same album as Rocket Man, which addresses similar subject material by way of allegory to the loneliness of fame.
