Evanescence: Before The Dawn Meaning

Album cover for Before The Dawn album cover

Before The Dawn Lyrics

Meet me after dark again and I'll hold you
I want nothing more than to see you there
And maybe tonight, we'll fly so far away
We'll be lost before the dawn

If only night can hold you where i can see you, my love
Then let me never ever wake...

Well, I think that this person she loves is just a man in her dreams.

"meet me after dark again and I'll hold you"

when it's dark (night) you sleep.

"we'll be lost before the dawn"

    dawn is when people awaken.

"if only night can hold you where I can see you, my love
then let me never ever wake again"

she doesn't want to wake from her dream of him because she knows he isn't real.

"somehow I know that we can't wake again from this dream
    it's not real, but it's ours "

that's the part that makes me think of her dreaming up a man.

I think it is about dreaming of your crush or am imaginary boyfriend being together while your asleep but you know when you wake up your dream will end and you'll have to say goodbye until the next night

I listened to this song when my husband was deployed two years ago. To me it was about both of us being asleep and once we were in our dreams we could meet up on well, in my head, it was Aladdin's carpet, but we would surf the stars together until the morning when we had to wake up back to reality. Since we could not physically be together at that time, this song helped a little I guess. This song probably and obviously has many different meanings to other people but thought I would share mine :).

I think it's like Anywhere. Two people are secretly dating, but they don't want it to have to be secret, so they run away together.

I think this song is about a love, that may or may not be romantic. It can also be the love or passion we feel for something, a dream we wish to achieve, a person we want to love...Whatever be that, that is denied to us virtually or directly by the situation we are in, by the people around us, the society...that is why ' i can meet him in the dark' in the 'dreams i have', not in reality. But this longing, this passion is so great we cannot live without it. Find reality impossible without this fantasy of ours. So we decide to escape so far away where we won't be restricted. Maybe die, maybe move away from all the restrictions imposed on us to be finally free and united with our love. it maybe about committing suicide maybe about rediscovering ourselves by discarding the old jacket.

It reminds me of vampires too!!
I love this song, it's so innocent and yet sad at the same time.
It's kinda like Amy's love is imaginary, and when she wakes up he will be gone.. Kinda vampiric too, coz they can't go out in the sunlight..

This song leads me to debate whether it is a story of forbidden love or a love fantasy.

Whether one fantasies of someone she knows but can't have, or someone she wishes to be real it is all within the dreaming concept the lines "somehow I know that I can't wake again from this dream, it's not real but it's mine/ours" suggests this.

    It's like Romeo and Juliette.

This is quite an easy one to understand. She loves someone who exists only in her dreams and she knows that by waking up she'll leave 'im

My interpretation would be that a couple so madly in love but are not excepted decide to both commit suicide thus "and maybe tonight we'll fly so faraway we'll be lost before the dawn" they keep trying and trying but just can't bring themselves to finish it.

I personally think that it's about a forbidden love story. They can only meet at nights, though maybe its just metaphorical and it means they can only meet at specific times and places wich no one can see them. But this time they "fly too far", and decide to take some risk to be together. They dream to be together one day, they know this is not possible and its just a dream but it's theirs and it keeps them happy and hopeful.

I don't know why, but this song always reminds me of vampires. And I know that's not an interpretation, but..Ya know. It still...Reminds me of vampires, does anyone else think of them when they here this song...?Lol

I think this song is pretty much self explanatory. She loves someone but people are holding them down. So they wanna escape the world so they can be together without anyone objecting to their love.
