In the song, she is mainly talking to herself when she says "you don't know how you've betrayed me; you're not real and you can't save me". People see her as an idol or an icon, and she just wants people to see her as a person. That's why she says "have you no shame don't you see me"
She's sickened how deep people sink into the lies of herself and the lies of others. Fame made people think she's "perfect by nature" or and "icon of self-indulgence". She's saying they world's not perfect and neither is she. But people still hold her to her perfect reputation and she can't be herself because of it.

I personally think this song is about fame, how it has ruined her life, how she's not herself anymore. In the music video, you see her on billboards, in photoshoots and commmercials,and then you see the real her. She'a a mess, she doesn't know who she is anymore, and she hates what she has become.

To me, this song is addressed to people like Lindsey Lohan, people who evidently view themselves as "perfect by nature" and have made themselves "icons of self indulgence" and, to point out the obvious, icons of self destruction. Look how many times such people appear in scandal sheets, gossip columns, tv celebrity shows, and pointedly, how many times they are arrested, jailed, sent to "rehab" which never seems to rehabilitate them, etc. Lindsey Lohan was a pretty girl, who had a few movies and was popular, and what did she do with her life? Totally destroyed it. She still thinks she is "important" and a "celebrity" but has fooled herself, and anyone else that still believes she is anything but a failure at life.

I think this song is talking not about a separate person, but a side of herself that's popular and different and really not like Amy herself at all.

I think there's she's talking to herself about how 'that side' was showing everybody someone else that's not her and they're believing it.
If you've ever seen the music video there is a part where two really pretty college girls are waiting for an elevator with Amy, but they don't realize they're waiting with a beautiful girl from a perfume add (Amy) because in the add she was in she looked so much more different, and then the girls notice and they get fan like even though Amy tries to deny that she's that person from the add. when they think she's not listening they talk about how she looked so much younger and prettier than she actually was.
In this song I think there's a message that's saying a lot of things are straight out lies and deceptions and we have to get rid of them. -
What i believe about this song is that you (Amy, Me, whoever feels this way) is fooling people about who they really are. in the film clip Amy is in this ad for a drink, she is getting pictures taken of her lying on a couch 'perfect by nature, icons of self indulgence' and then in sarcasm 'just what we all need' and she believes' more lies about a world that never was and never will be'.Then she walks into this backstage area. The girls there are impressed by her 'look her she comes now, bow down and stare in wonder oh how we love you no flaws' and Amy is thinking (when I'm pretending but she's talking to herself so it's 'when you're pretending')
she has everybody fooled so 'without the mask where will you hide? can't find yourself lost in your lie'
she feels betrayed by herself 'you don't know how you've betrayed me, somehow you've got everybody fooled'
She finds who she really is and doesn't like it at all 'i know the truth now, i know who you are, and i don't love you anymore'

i think this song is about a girl who wanted fame and fortune so she was willing to become something she's not. once she got what she wanted,she realized that she doesn't like what she's become. she doesn't like they way she's lying to herself and is now fooling everyone and herself.

Actually, Amy said that when her sister (either Carrie or Lorri) was 8, they began to dress and act like Britney Spears. Amy, being the down-to-earth and caring person she is, was infuriated by her sister's decision to be like all these cheesy and fake pop stars, aka Britney Spears. So, to show her sister how fake Britney (not just her, but mostly about her) is, she wrote a song, explaining how Britney is lying everyday, and she is not perfect.

So most of you are tight but also wrong that I personally think. Yes Amy does talk about herself in this song as being a liar, but not just her, everyone in general. All artist male and female, you and I ad everyone who controls who they are. The music indusry tells every artist how they must dress, act, be, and so on. If they (artists) don't do as they are told then they get no jobs, no record labels for them to sell their music, and they don't get money, look at all the pop singers, Beyonce, Rihanna, Christina, Brit, and many others, a big one is Lady GaGa. For example they all look the same, songs sound almost alike. They either do as they are told and I they don't they won't get the income, and they won't become famous. So Amy says to the industry no more, I can't go on with this lie, so she takes a shower to take all the bad away and feel like a new person for making herself an image like everyone else does tat lies to her fans, I'm sure we all take a hot bath and hope for a new day to come. She still feels the same so she cuts her hair and tries to be a different person, but still does not work,
" I see the truth now = now I see what you made me become, and I don't care what you do but I won't do it anymore.
I know who you are = the people you are, are evil and now I see the truth about you.
" and I don't love you anymore" = I will rather let this famous life go then to lie to the fans that love me and respect me as who I am.
So google demonic pop singers and you will see what I'm talking about. I'm not saying believe me but I'm just another person trying to open your eyes to a new world of the government, the illuminati, and the free Mason, how they think and how they put subliminal messages on songs, movies and everything they can make your Subconscious mind pic up, look at Disney and how little girls fallow all the pop singers who look like whores now these days, ever wonder why a 11-17 year old girl looks like a 30 year old with what she dresses and things she uses to fallow her idol. Why do you think some bands are no longer around, why they break up, Evanescence is no longer, cause Amy said enough, I won't do or say what you want me to, just like many other bands just like Michael Jackson said too much so they had to get rid of him.

This song is about how todays corporations can sell out a person and change that person into something different than she was before.
"I don't love you anymore"
This line represents the hatred she has for herself since she began working with big corporations. In the video, as she lies on the bed she scribbles out pictures of herself in a magazine it shows how he can't cope with the fact she has to make herself fake to be seen by the world.
In the elevator with the two women she hides herself and denies ever being "the woman" because she seems ashamed of herself. -
I dont think this song is even about her, i think its about how fake celebraties are. "Perfect by nature, icons of self indulgence. just what we all need, more lies about a world that never was and never will be" its clear. it almost hits you in the face when you think about it. "have you no shame dont you see me, you know youve got everybody fooled"

I think it's about another girl who was very popular and pretty, and the singer/1st person used to thin they were cool and stuff, but then realized she was horrible and cruel. She showed the rest of the people that she was horrible.

but now I know she never was and never will be (perfect). I know the truth now. I know who you are. and I don't love you any more. She finds out about how bad she is.
Without the mask, where will you hide? And somehow now you're everybody's fool. She shows everyone how horrible she was. -
I think that this song is about all of the pop stars out there who use "sex appeal" to get an audience. What happens when they become your role model, and then you cannot trust them anymore because of some accident, or finding out who they truly are? Amy never flashed or anything super sexual, but there are singers and performers who are simply too inappropriate.

I think it's about fame changes people. In the video, she's crying over herself changing and being talked about by others, sometimes not in the most positive way, and how media lies. If you notice, she scribbles over a picture over herself (cause shes mad with herself), and the word LIE is used alot... The pizza.. The billboard.. The soda...

I might be wrong, but I think the song is about media and supper stars and actors using media and altering their voices in songs. "Bow down and stare in wonder" you see and hear them live, but you stare wondering who they are. "Oh, how we love you" The fans one loved the star, but because he/she lied and used media, the fans are disappointed. And now they know the truth, and now they don't love him/her anymore.
I could be wrong. If I am I'll go with the interpretations above.
