Everybody's Fool Lyrics

Perfect by nature
Icons of self indulgence
Just what we all need
More lies about a world that

Never was and never will be
Have you no shame don't you see me?
You know you've got everybody fooled

Look here she comes now
Bow down and...

She is talking about herself in the song. It's about her changing who she was for publicity and publicity only. She knew that she would get everything that she wanted and did, but in later years, everything took a turn for the worst. The publicity just stopped, and people started seeing her in a different way. (It's kind of like what happened with Brittany Spears. So many people thought that she was so cool, until she lost publicity. It was even before she shaved her head.) People started making fun of her, and no one wanted her to advertise anymore. Everyone abandoned her, and she then got a chance to see what she did to herself. She lied to everyone about who she was, including herself. Then she realized that she had no one to blame but herself. ("Your not real and you can't save me")She realized that all of that publicity was built on something that never was and never will be.

Aww this one grew on me

This song can be interpreted in many ways but it's actually a message to a relative of Amy Lee (sister, cousin, I forgot). But it's also a message to many people.

Its basically about how this girl has become what everyone wanted her to be instead of who she really is. She's putting on a charade for everyone else, but Amy can see right through it. She hates what she has become. That's the message to her (sister) I think.

The message to fans is clear as day. Be you, not what everyone tries to make you or whatever.

I definitely agree with the top rated interpretation. But there could be different meanings to other people. When I listen the song, I think of a girl who I know. If I was singing this song, I'd be mocking her. Another meaning of this song could be about a person mocking someone for lieing, hiding behind a mask of perfection, and just making themselves feel high and mighty and,"Oh, look at me. Love me! I'm perfect! I'm better than you all!" That is another meaning that most people get when they listen to the song, but don't watch the music video.

This song is about suddenly waking up to the sudden and violent realization that life is not as you imagined it would be. Specifically, it's about Jesus Christ and a feeling of betrayal. I think the singer must have realized that she was adopted. Sometimes people who are adopted just wake up at the age of 30 or 40 or whatever and just KNOW that they were adopted. It just suddenly makes sense to them and usually they get very angry about it.
I think that, in her case, she realized that she was adopted but couldn't bring herself to blame her parents for the pain that she felt and so she decided to blame Jesus and abandon him. I think the story that this song tells is just the beginning of her downward spiral and ultimate demise. I see the song as being open ended, with the implication that the voice of the story went on to begin using drugs and god only knows what else. She simply forgot hope.
I also believe, though, that the deeper message behind the song is that Christianity is bad for this reason. People are happy and faith is strong when things are going well for them. I think what Amy Lee is trying to say is that, when bad things happen, christians tend to loose all faith, freak out and begin a path of self destruction.

Ok, so I'm actually listening 2 it now!
this song is about how Amy lied to herself, and everyone else about who she was.In the Music video actaully,in the end, two girls in the bathroom wee laughing, and looked at her and say "hey are you Amy Lee?" she looks at them and says no...this isn't Amy wanting to hide herslef in public, its about her beleiving that she lied to herself, its basically saying, "I'm not AMY LEE,this huge role model for every girl out there,I'm just Amy Lee,and I deserve no more admiration than any of you."
She doesn't want everyone to look at her like WOW ITS AMY LEE! hence the line "look there she goes now, bow down & stare in wonder." When,in the begining of the song she says, "icons of self indulgence" , she means she looks at herself as someone who is indulged,or completley amused with themself. but Amy also says, "just what we all need, more lies about the world that never was and never will be." meaning she indulged herself in a lie.

Carrie Lee’s fascination with pop stars such as Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera was the inspiration for the song. Amy Lee said that Carrie, 8 at the time, started to dress as those two superstars and that it angered Amy. It is track #3 and the fourth and final single off of Fallen. The song debuted at #23. This is because it was thought that Imaginary was going to be the fourth single off the album. However, it was decided that Everybody's Fool would be released and therefore affected the promotion of the single.

It's about her sister and others like her that look up to the wrong people for role models. kids shouldn't be idolizing people like brittney spears who are even more corrupt than we are. what they need it a real person who understands them and doesn't try to be perfect. that's amy lee. she's not everybody's fool, she's the real deal (:

"I know as a matter of fact that this song is about Britney Spears, being a great singer, then turning into...let's just say going the opposite direction."

    ---

Something tells me that Evanescence wouldn't waste their time writing about Britney Spears....

ok... this song is about Amy's sister (NOT THE ONE THAT DIED) i dont know the actual details but i know that... the music video itself was sorta what she thought about Britney Spears.... her and amy were like enemies Britney quotes "Who is this goth freak?" while talking about amy.. tho later when Britney was going through all her hard times Amy rushed to her defense because she knows what it feels like to be hurt and broken and wouldnt wish it upon anyone.. even her enemies... but that didnt happen until after the music video

You guys are all really close. The way I see it, the "girl" she is talking about is not one specific person, but the unrealistic American (world) view of "beauty".

This song is about how the media is using her by changing her into something she's not.

It's about those public icons, like Britney Spears and such, that everyone seems to love no matter how faulted they are.

Not a very good interpretation, but it's the truth...

Actually, does any of you know this one quote?

"My little sister was really getting into these, I don't want to offend anyone, but like really fake, cheesy, slutty female cracker-box idols, and it really pissed me off. She started dressing like them and she was like 8 years old. So I gave her the talk and I wrote a song."

Amy Lee said that of course! "Everybody's Fool" does deal with that.

I don't know about all of you, but the meaning seemed to scream at me loudly and clearly. I think it's about how society wants everyone to see celebreties as perfect and flawless 24/7 and what a total sham this notion is!! No one wakes up in the morning looking perfect and no one, no matter how famous or rich has the perfect face, body, etc. I think this song and it's video clearly drive this home!(notice in the beginning of the video you see how beautiful Amy looks in all her "adds" and "commericals", but in the hotel room she is scratching out her own picture in a magazine, yelling at herself in the mirror and screaming at her own face on a billboard add). The fact that she is crying in private and punches her own reflection in the mirror shows how she realizes what a lie the whole thing is and how she can never live up to the "image" that she is expected to portray. Also in the video, if you notice the words that come on the screen toward the end of the song are "crazy", "ugly" and "worthless" - a drastic change from the perfect little actress/model that we see during the first half of the video. Watch the video several times. The word "lies" appears in this videos over 30 times....it gives one pause for much thought!
