Evanescence: Lacrymosa Meaning

Album cover for Lacrymosa album cover

Lacrymosa Lyrics

Out on your own,
Cold and alone again.
Can this be what you really wanted, baby?

Blame it on me,
Set your guilt free.
Nothing can hold you back now.

Now that you're gone,
I feel like myself again.
Grieving the things I can't repair...

SO I'm thinking this song is about her speaking to a person she no longer loves.

Whether is be an old boyfriend/husband or simply a family member or friend she once was close to. She no longer wants to be near them but its hard for her to just drop them out her life and run away. "Now that you're gone, I feel like myself again. Grieving the things I can't repair and willing..."

Near the end the beat and energy of the song sort of pick up. Here I think this is her rebelling against this person wanting them back. "My love wasnt enough". Her love wasnt enough for that person, so she left.

Another idea I had was that this is two people talking.

The first verse and chorus is the person that hurt her saying, "Out on your own, Cold and alone again. Can this be what you really wanted, baby?
Blame it on me, Set your guilt free. Nothing can hold you back now."

Amy lee responds with, "Now that you're gone, I feel like myself again. Grieving the things I can't repair and willing..."

Next, the person who did the damage replies with the chorus " blame it on me....."

As the beat picks up, Amy Lee responds with "I can't change who I am.
Not this time, I won't lie to keep you near me.
And in this short life, there's no time to waste on giving up.
    My love wasn't enough."

Still trying to have her stay, the person who hurt her esponds with the same line spoken in a slightly different way.

And that's it, what you think?

I believe this has to do with a person who is trying to control there partner. Not only where they trying to control there partner but also change the way they where. Now that he/she has broken up with such person the partner is questioning whether if that is what they wanted in the end, to finish the relationship. The was some type of accusations going on that she wants him to just lay all his/her guilt on her even though she knows she gave it her all.
I related to the song automatically, every word just kept clicking into the situation I am. I can not change for someone if they can not accept me for who I am. They controlled me. Tried to change me. Eventually my real self came out like I was in a cocoon all along.

the door in the picture that amy is walking through in this picture reminds me of the door that katy perry steps through in her video wide awake, its the barrier between the dead and the living or maybe more accurately the demons.

I think that this song is about Amy losing someone really close to her and she is really hurt. I think that she is talking as two different people herself, and the person who hurt her. Many people think that it is the opposite but that is what I think.

The word Lacrymosa meens 'weeping' in Latin, so this song is probably about brreaking up with someone; even though it is hard, it is for the best. Then she moves on and is better.

I find the lyrics slightly sarcastic in a way.. the whole "i don't want to hold you back now love" and "nothing can hold you back now" sound sarcastic to me.
    But maybe that's just me

I think Amy is singing about someone she loved more then anything in the world but then that person hurt her so much that it now hurts to love this person.
so she trys to replace all the love she once felt with hate. The person trys to make her feel guilty but she stands firm learns to forgive this person but casts him/her out of her life. This is one of my favourit songs and my favorit pice of music she is so talented!!!

He's gone, and she's sad and feeling alone, but she knows she can't get it back, even though she would like to.

It's kind of a common sense take on a breakup.

"It didn't work out. When we tried to be right for each other, it was all a lie. Let's try to make this as painless as possible. I want to move on, and I want you to move on too. If you have to blame this whole thing on me to do so, okay."

Alright, well, I've heard what Amy has had to say about Lacrymosa.
She loves Mozart's Requiem, especially a part named Lacrimosa, which is her favorite piece of music.
So, she did a re-make of the part in the Requiem.

    Those lyrics in English are:
    Tearful that day,
on which will rise from ashes
    guilty man for judgment.
So have mercy, O Lord, on this man.
    Compassionate Lord Jesus,
    grant them rest. Amen.

    Lacrimosa means tearful in Latin.

Lacrimosa was a woman in the bible sent to Hell.
That is what this is about. I think the song is about God's standpoint and how Lacrimosa rejected him and did her own thing.

I find this song relaxing, sort of calming, but I can't put my finger on why.
It is also stressed and tense at the same time, and together with the lyrics, it reminds me a bit of after you've been really angry and frustated and then you go all calm suddenly, and completely focus your feelings and emotions.

This song is about a person who was broken up because she/he refused to change for her/his partner.

The partner was never really in loved with this person but was with her/him just to not be alone, this person was happy with his/her partner but has come to realize that he/she is just holding him/her down. Because he/she doesn't think she is worth it, plus she/he was lying to his/herself and the partner... Trying to be someone that the other person wanted, because life is too short to live a lie.

So now he/she is saying that blame it on me if you want, if it makes you feel better, in the end he/she knows is for the best of them.

Even though she/he will now be grieving, and sad.

that could explain the begining which seems to be a sort of denial.
-lacrymosa means weeping, so she is talking to herself -her broken up part- telling it to blame it on her - the tired of lying part-

    Out on your own
    cold and alone again
can this be what you really wanted, baby?
    -talking to herself- (the beginning)
