I Don't Care Lyrics

Say my name, and his in the same breath,
I dare you to say we taste the same,
Let the leaves fall off in the summer
And let December glow in flames

Brace myself and let go,
Start it over again in Mexico
These friends, they don't love...

Its a song about critics. The video further suggests this. The line "say my name and his in the same breathe" points out to comparison with other bands in the genre of emo and some out of it. and further to say "I dare you to say they taste the same" is a self righteous statement of confidence that they would be better in all odds. Starting over in Mexico would mean running away from all the negative media.. Mexico is seen as a Canaan where you can be yourself and everyone would appreciate your music because you are a foreigner.. and American to be precise. It goes on to show that they are justified to feel deprived of a natural social standing because they are constantly being taken advantage of by their superiors who ironically would amount to nothing more than potential without their artists. the second verse is a retaliation.. different from the first verse which introduces us to the problem at hand. It says to the critics, "get used to the fact that we are always going to be here and making good music the way we see fit, with no trend to what you deem is rock 'n' roll" and it also insists that if the critics don't accept it.. They are the ones that are going to have hell. (heatwave in your pants). I'm the oracle in my chest,
Let the guitar scream like a fascist,
Sweat it out, shut your mouth,
Free love on the streets, but
In the alley and I ain't that cheap- that is an expression of how they see their music. The chorus means that your crits will only make us rock on further.. The way we know how..

"I don't care what you say as long as it's about me" Any press is good press. Even if the critics say the album is crap. It's gonna bring all the people that aren't fall out boy fans out of the woodwork to buy the CD just to stick it to the media. Then the album will become popular by media screwing sales. It also talks about what they would be like if they were rockstars. For example "in the alley it aint that cheap" could refer to drugs or other vices of rockstars.

So he says, I don’t care what you think as long as it’s about me, I think it means, he got cheated on by his girlfriend, so he doesn’t care

I think that so far the interpretations of this song have been accurate as far as the verses go. How they are sort of taking shots at critics and saying that they will do what they want. However in the chorus there is a cool double meaning that really solidifies this song as a lyrical masterpiece. "I don't care what you think as long as its about me, the best of us can find happiness in misery."First its sort of mocking our culture today and as Patrick pointed out it all comes back to selfishness. How people just want noticed, and don't care about anything but themselves. The other meaning I think was best expressed by Pete when he said "there's nothing people want to scream in the mirror more than I don't care." And now im paraphrasing but he said something to the effect of you can say I don't care what you think as long as its about me and feel okay about yourself. In away its sort of saying I don't care if you like me or not but I will keep doing what i want and even if you don't like it I will "find happiness in misery."
I hope I came close on my interpretation of this song sorry if I butchered it. I'm just a fan and this is what I took from the song.

i think it means that they don't care what you're thinking as long as its about them and not another guy. but the other ways sound good too.

I think they mean when they say, "I don't care what you think as long as it's about me" that if it has anything to do with them they dont care to hear what you think. "I'm the oracle in my chest" they dont need anyones opinion but their own "let the guitar scream like a fascist." That seems simple enough for me anyway.

"I don't care what you think
As long as it's about me"
i think they're saying that any plublicity is okay, becuase no matter what, people will think whatever they want about you. you could say in a interview, "i like cats, i'm not much of a dog person." and people will either go, 'aw, he likes kittins' or 'omg, he totally hates dogs, he iz an evil person.' but, hey, at least they are talking about you

I think the song is about some dude with a girl. And she might be cheating. For example in the first verse when patrick says" say my name and his in the same breathe. I dare you to say they taste the same" he telling her to say what they have differnt from each other and what they have in common. Then he just trys to forget her "earase my self and let go. Started over again in mexico".

I was kinda stump on the second verse but I'll try. "I'll take a chance and let yah body get a tolerance" I think that means that he wants to give her another chance. "I'm not a chance but a heat wave in your pants" that means that she was just using him even though he gave her another chance. "Pawn shop heart trading up" means that she traded his heart for someone else. "Shut yah mouth free love on the streets but in the alley it aint that cheap" which mean that his love is worth something its not cheap.
    And that my interpretation.

Let me take a whack at this.

'Oh, take a chance, let your body get a tolerance'
Try listening to the band regardless of what others say; you might like them.
'I'm not a chance, but a heat wave in your pants '
...I've got nothing for this, except that someone's an egomaniac.

I think theyre just saying that they don't care weather the critics like them or not. Theyre fans like them and thats all that matters. This is totally off topic, but when I'm ignoring someone making fun of me, I repeat this song in my head

It's about politics, and the 'pay attention to me culture' we live in. Basically asking why. They said so themselves.

I think this song is about how they don't care what you think of them just as long as it's about them.So like if you say you think they are gay they will say I don't care.

This song is taking a crack at critics. They all say "they're not rock stars" and so this song is just satire. It's a song about how they would be if they were "rockstars"
