Pretty In Punk Lyrics

Walking off that stage tonight
I know what your thinking
And he stands alone because he's high on himself
But if you only knew..

I was terrified and would you mind if I sat next to you and watch you smile
So many kids but I only see...

    -The Title-

Pretty In Punk; basically describes their fame and how the new trend is to be emo or punk, or whatever. It refers not only to the style of their music, but how they're supposed to be noticed - this guy, in the song, he's hip, he's hot: why doesn't this girl notice him?!

    -The Lyrics-

    [Yeah!!]
    & guitar intro

-punk style, on purpose.. not many of their songs are so bluntly punk in this way.

    Walking off that stage tonight
I know what you're thinking, yeah:
He stands alone because he's high on himself
    If you only knew...

-he knows this girl thinks that he's standing by himself because he's oh-so-famous and popular, and he's loving it. He thinks that she thinks he's just high on himself: too good for anybody. But he wants people to realize that he has normal feelings, too. He has trouble talking to girls he's head-over-heels in love with. Just because he's famous doesn't make him perfect.

I was terrified and would you mind if I
sat next to you and watched you smile?
So many kids, but I only see you
And I don't think you notice me, well...

-His real feelings. He's terrified to make a move and he just could stare at her smile all night. She's the only one he's focused on, and he's so frustrated that she doesn't seem to even notice him. A typical situation in anybody's life!

    I've seen your boyfriend,
and I don't think he treats you right
But that's none of my business, is it?

-He WANTS to help, he WANTS to be hers, but he doesn't want o be rude about it. He'd like it to happen naturally, smoothly, but things just don't go like that. He doesn't think her boyfriend treats her right and he knows he can treat her better and make her happier.

I'm not the way you think I am,
    Nooooooooo.
I'm not the way you think I am,
    Nooooooooo.

-He just wants to tell her that.

The only girl who ever gave me the time
was the one, the only one, who ever wanted five minutes of mine.
Knocking boots in the back, how degading is that?--
    I decline.

-This is one part of the song I'm not quite sure about, but it seems like he's talking about the only girl who ever seemed to give a d*** about him ended up cheating on him with another guy... That's degrading, to find out your girlfriend's been cheating. She might've come running back to him, asking for another chance, but he declined.

    --The song repeats--

    ***These are my opinions only***

    Hope that helped =]

I've heard two different interpritations of this song.
One like a lot off FOB songs is that this song is about a girl who the narrator likes that doesn't like him like that way back. 'i've seen your boyfriend and I don't think he treats you right' suggests the same things as seen in grand theft autumn about jelousy and love. 'Im not the way you think I am' can be seen in 2 different ways. It can be seen as either the girl thinks the narrator is gay when he's trying to tell her he isnt. Or that he really likes he but because of her boyfriend he cant.
'the only girl who ever gave me the time was the one who only wanted 5 minutes of mine' shows that the narrator is depressed and is desperatly seeking for love and all other attempts he has had with girls have failed.
'knocking boots..... In the back how degrading is that? I decline' shows that if she only wants to use him then he would rather have his dignity ('i decline')

the other interpritation I have heard of this is:
The narrator has gone to see his favourite band and his idol has come off stage into the crowd and he is finally going to meet him/her. ' "he stands alone because he's high on himself" ' is a friend telling him that the idol isn't worth all the praise but the narrator doesn't care. 'i was terified' shows that he was nervous but yet excited to meet him/her. 'So many kids but I only see you - but I don't think you notice me' (pre-chorus) and the chorus 'im not the way you think I am' both mean the same thing, I'm not just your average fan, I'm more like THE fan and you are my hero.
The second verse is explaining the narators sheer desire to be exactly like his idol (surrounded by girls) but in reality the only girls that want him don't actually want him there just using him. The way that the beat slowly gets faster and faster during the last 35 seconds suggests the beating off the narrators heart as he gets closer and closer.

This song is about being famous and in a band and finishing his set and he sees the girl he likes in the crowd. He thinks she only sees him as "High on himself" but if she only knew...He wants her to know the real him and that he's terrifed and in love with her and only wants to see her smile. And in his opinion her boyfriend doesn't treat her as good as he(the famous band guy) could..."I'm not the way you think I am" hints that he's really a nice caring guy whose in love, not just some famous horndog on stage. "The only girl who ever gave me the time..." line refers to all that girls want from him is to have sex for five mintues and how he won't because it is degrading to him to "knock boots in the back". He wants this girl out of all the "kids he sees" because she stands out to him and he just wants some time to sit down next to her and get to know her....this is my interpretation of the song anyway...hope it sounds ok...and fall out boy rocks...they've saved my life.

My interpretation of this song is that there's somebody (who may be a friend, may just be an observer) who admirers a girl who has a boyfriend, but in truth he does more than admirer her. He's pretty much in love with her
'Do you mind if I sat next to you and watched you smile', meaning he's just happy to be with her.
'So many kids but I only see you' means he's aware of everyone else around but he only cares for her.
'But I don't think you notice me' means he's sure she doesn't care for him.
'I've seen your boyfriend and I don't think he treats you right' is saying that he doesn't think her boyfriend is good enough for her.
'I'm not the way you think I am' is saying how he thinks if she knew him better, she'd love him.

Patrick wrote this song. I think it's about how people (or just girls in general/a girl in particular) thought he was stuck up and snobby for being in a band, when maybe he was just too shy and unsure of himself ("he stands alone because he's high on himself, but if you only knew" / "i'm not the way you think I am")

In my opinion, this song is probably one of the clearest songs FOB has written, in terms of interpretation.

I think that, really, this is just about a boy, a girl he obviously likes, and the girl's boyfriend.

The girl's boyfriend just really doesn't treat her right, or, at least, that's what the boy thinks ("I've seen your boyfriend, and I don't think he treats you right."). But obviously, that isn't what the girl wants to hear, and so, it's "none of his business".

And so the boy tries to content himself with some other cheap girl, or (maybe) a prostitute ("The only girl who ever gave me the time was the one who only wanted 5 minutes of mine... knocking boots in the back..."), but he still can't stop thinking of her. So, in conclusion, the boy ends up with nothing, as he does not have the guts to tell her how much she means to him, and so is content to "watching her smile", or watching her from afar, although he knows that will never help.

    I hope that helped. :)

umm.... Isn't the title kinda like the movie pretty in pink... I don't know does anyone think that, that might have something to do with the song I don't know though... It's been a while since I've seen that movie

This interpretation has been marked as poor. view anyway

After a show, the narrator is standing around, and sees this girl and her bad boyfriend. He decides that he's in love (rather quickly) and is trying to tell her that he's not a stuck up snobby person, and that her boyfriend sucks.
