   When ownership, property and copyrights are considered part of any relationship (where, in this song it seems more like a father/son relationship), the inevitable gain is absolute zero.
   
   "I'm not your boy," could equally be justified as being, "I'm not your toy." Really, the prevailing theme of the song mimics what it means to be an expendable object or bottom-line expenditure when trying to promote marketable growth in any industry...
   
   Whether that be a father who expects from his son to deliver all that he has enabled but within the guise of expectations that he, himself did not accomplish...all that which he lacks.. The pressure is tremendous when trying to "live up" to such expectations when "passing the proverbial buck" hence, "bust you wallet while I break my back." Definitely, a mishap in that the gap between the two can be an assortment of actual clauses. From a father who pays for his childs college and forgets that he too worked hard to achieve, dismisses that his son is breaking his (the sons) back. This could also represent the corporate realm where the workers must be constantly be aware of budgets and are the ones who must bare the brunt from the very top who are only concerned about stock holders (when they rely so heavily on false markets) and what the general audience (aka the whole, entire world) wants. It could also be that the band feels as though the demands from their audience (their sales) are incompatible with what they intended when they first began...which was to be themselves and be accepted for that despite....hollywood.
   
   The "mistake" also delivers such an ambiguous plethora of meaning that it can be lyricinterpretaionally interpreted in many ways. When considering a father/son relationship it could mean that the narrator feels as though he is a mistake and one that is truly owned...an inescapable compilation of genetics...which deems his future to "be sold" as in without purpose or meaning. A byproduct or waste when viewed from that perspective. However, he does repeat, "hey old man got somthing for you" which completely deviates from a defeated stature and demonstrates that he is not simply a toy or mistake or consequence...he derives meaning in that which he knows could easily be considered a waste. Much like a job.
   
   It is always easy to be angered by "the man" who you break your back for and who you know places too much abode into what you are pressured into producing, but the what you are doing is what matters and worth and value is derived from that.
   
   Much resentment, hatred and anger can revolve around the old man who only sees his progeny as despendible, but it is up to the offspring to realize that the old man is dispicible and harness meaning and purpose from that understanding.
   
   When the life of the elder is torn, there is no other option than to break up that and completely sever all strings that may attach...to find you won way when someone completely dominates the market...especially when you are not marketable.
   
   Great song and movie. Tragic though.
