Far from Home Lyrics

Another day in this carnival of souls
Another nights settles in as quickly as it goes
The memories are shadows ink on the page
And I can't seem to find my way home

And it's almost like
Your heaven's trying everything
Your heaven's trying...

To me, I think it's about a person struggling with emotional pains that never seem to ease. Trying their best to fit in with the people around them but just can't. Trying to cope with depression, anxiety,PTSD or anything else but are always on the edge of life or death. A person having a beer by themselves and having a conversation with god maybe. Try to find out what's wrong and why they can seem to find peace within. Them feeling so missunderstod and alone having a conversation with their inner self and trying to mend the scares and wounds. Days that feel like hours and sleep that feels like minute's. Yet a battle that never seem to end inside one's head.

This is a song truly about PTSD. Seeing loved ones and fellow men on the battlefield die and not being able to join them and the guilt of living through the tragedy of others death.

Sounds like a person who's had to endure death and tragedy, losing friends/loved ones and is unable to join them. This person has been going through it for so long, their memories have become nothing but shadows. With the line "your heavens trying to keep me out" sort of sounds like the person is doing something that isn't "right" in the eyes of god but must be done regardless...so they are forced to remain behind. The line "a nights sands end as quickly as it goes..." makes me think of a desert, or Iraq and the soldiers over there. Good chance, given the album name and song title...its about a soldier who has been at war for a very long time.

I submitted an interpretation of this song on Feb 26,2022 and have not seen it posted as of yet.It is now March 2, 2022 and still nothing. While it was a long interpretation, I put a lot of thought and time into this and feel it should be posted. There were no swears or foul language in the contents. Could someone please tell me why it has not been posted yet. I know it can take up to 48 hours for review of contents before posting but there is nothing offensive in it and the time has certainly gone by.

I believe this song is truly about war and all those who go through it feel and also I believe it is definately about PTSD, and the tragedies of war brought on by going through the hell that is war. The video and lyrics are so true and real for those who have unfortunately experienced this tragedy first hand. People who do not recognize what our veterans have gone through have NO RIGHT OR ROOM TO SAY NEGATIVE THINGS TO THEM WHEN THEY RETURN FROM PUTTING THIER OWN LIVES ON THE LINE PROTECTING OUR COUNTRY AND FREEDOM!!! I personally know a man who was a Sergeant in the Marines who went through this hell and was treated like SHIT when he returned from the military...Called vile names, spit upon, got NO RECOGNITION for what he had been through or did while defending OUR COUNTRY. By time these IDIOTS realized what he stood for it was too late for "THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE." He grew angry, isolated, not wanting to bring down people he associated with or other people/VETS he served with. He typed a paper about his experience in the service and gave me a copy. He feared he would take this hate with him when he leaves this world. He also suffers from PTSD as well as other things. To this day whenever I read that paper he shared with me I still cry. This is what a POWERFUL MESSAGE it meant to me!!! He served not once but twice!!! He also earned "MARINE OF THE YEAR" award. I saw the plaque on his wall when I was visiting him. He joined the MARINES when he was 18. He is now 71. He has been through hell and back!!! There are things he won't talk about and I won't ask.He said he will take those with him.God Bless You My Friend and God Bless America and ALL the men and women who have served thier country so BRAVE and PROUD!!! RIP CHRIS KYLE!!! A BIG SALUTE TO ALL WHO HAVE SERVED OUR COUNTRY!!! YOU ARE ALL TRUE PATRIOTS!!!

I agree with many posts here. My own story involves severe domestic violence growing up, leaving home at 14 on the streets to escape. entering the military at 17 until 23 with UN deployments across the Arab nations and other areas. Learned what family really means.
30 yrs of law enforcement after that. Seen the worst humanity has to offer. Retired now and my 3 wonderful kids and wife keep the demons at bay. I try not to spend too much time in the think tank.(Bed). Like a shark, have to keep moving forward or you sink. Thanks FFDP for your continued support to those who have chosen “ A life of Service”.

My interpretation is simple. It’s about an individual who has lost family & friend’s & wants so badly to be w/ them that suicide is the only solution but he knows if he commits this act he or she will not be allowed to be w/ the people that are gone from his life. It’s a sad dilemma when you’re lost & your only hope is to die & hope god allows you to join the people that are gone. The people you love & miss.

This is one of those songs that are written and sung with an indiscriminate meaning, it has a specific meaning to the person performing it, yet it also has an individual meaning to all that listen to it, everyone's interpretation may be slightly different, but the basic idea is to realize we all have losses and regrets, we all think about such from time to time, it's about moving forward and trying not to let the past keep you from moving forward

I think it's about PTSD and the effect war has on soldiers in the modern era... now the "heaven" part I saw as the government/people who they fight for because they are bound by honor and duty to fulfill their commands... this should open some eyes to the mental battle soldiers struggle with on and off the battlefield.

It’s about someone leaving home.... and trying to get back to where they came from. But God is keeping them busy doing other thing, or possibly putting obstacles in their way so they can’t get back home.

To me personally, this song describes my life while in active addiction. The shadows are the memories I had with my kids before I lost them, the high made them slowly disappear from my thoughts. The constant fight with myself, knowing that my addiction was consuming my life and keeping me from "your heaven's trying everything..." my addiction would not allow me the happiness and good that is "heaven"
"a nights sands end as quickly as it goes..." describes how quickly the days, weeks, years went by that I was not able to be a good mother...memories I won't get to make.

Sounds like a guy who's trying to fit in, and no one lets him. He's always getting rejected and ostracized. "Your heaven's trying everything to break me down." This I think means you're always trying to keep me away from peace.

I think its about committing a sin and trying to forgive yourself of it or being in a bad relationship and trying to leave but there is something holding you back or a unstable family memeber or a loss of someone or just any struggle your going though

Could be about religion, being divided with a friend because their idea of a perfect world goes against your personal beliefs, and now, you can't talk to them, I've gone through it before with friends

my interpretation was that a guy, has a friend, a good friend, who he is very close to. Now this song, describes his friend getting a girlfriend/boyfriend, who hates the singer, and so, therefore, his friend's "heaven" is trying to bring him down, in any way possible.

My daughter just asked me to listen to this song, and wow! I can see why. This is an amazing song. Since I know nothing of this band and it's the first time I heard the song, my impression in trying to figure out the meaning was that it's a person who's never really felt quite "at home" anywhere. Maybe growing up, there was a bad situation and/or they felt very different in personality from other family members, hence feeling "this isn't quite 'home' for me". And then, after moving out, realizing that they haven't yet found a place or life that they can "call home", and wondering if they ever will. As for the "heaven won't let me in" part, I too, see that as some others have said that it's someone who knows they're not living the life they should, so "heaven won't let them in", yet they're not ready or they're unwilling to change, yet at the same time are still somewhat sad about it somewhere deep inside.

i think its about loving someone and watching them move to another and you cant hate either of them and still love the other.
