Fleet Foxes: Blue Ridge Mountains Meaning
Blue Ridge Mountains Lyrics
Light up.

Robin mentions in some interviews that this song is about his grandfather who had passed recently. He spent a lot of time with him and his brother at a cabin his grandfather had built in the Washington forest. The lyrics "terrible am I child, even if you don't mind" are very hard to decipher. It could be something as simple as a falling out, or their grandfather having guilt for something he's done, but it could be something more serious. Robin is very cryptic with his responses when he is asked about this song so we may never know

Ongoing secretive/forbidden romantic fling in a remote place during winter with a cover story related to a delay in travel.

I don't have a complete interpretation but there are multiple references to Dante's Divine Comedy.
"I heard that you missed your connecting flight"
Dante starts the divine comedy lost in a dark wood.
"In the quivering forest,
Where the shivering dog rests"
This is a reference to the layer of hell where the suicides dwell.
"And the river got frozen"
This could be a reference to the frozen water in the lower levels of hell.
However these are not strong connections just food for thought. Some one should put more research into it.
