I don't know if it's pertinent, but there is an play by jimmy murphy called "kings of the kilburn high road"

it's about some young guys who come to london from ireland, hoping to make their fortune and return home. one of them dies, and they all meet, and basically drink to their dead friend and how he's the only one who's made it home, and he's going home in a coffin.

anyway, it sounds similar to me.

Not so much symbolism in this song, actually. The Kilburn High Road is a primarily Irish section of London. Though it's not the classiest place, it's an area of their own.

I could be way off about this, but I think that the song is about life. The Kilburn is symbolic for the road of life, and although there are many hardships on that road, we are ultimately the kings of our own lives.
