   I think this song could very much be about suicide and its got that mellow depressing tune to back up this theory.
   
   'bring some change up to the bridge......there we'll make a final wish just before the fall'-suggests jumping off of overpass above amotorway.
   
   'Watch the sunrise all alone
   Sitting on the tracks
   Hear the train come roaring in
   Never coming back.....broken bones scattered on the hill'-suggests sitting on the railway tracks waitingfor the train to hit him. Then his broken body will be all over the hill his was previsously sitting on that morning.
   
   the chorus goes...
   'Promise I will be forever yours
   Promise not to say another word
   Here forever deep beneath the dirt
   Nevermind whats done is done
   Always was a lucky one'- he promises that he will belong to her forever even after death. 'never mind whats done is done' may be him saying if he does commit suicide and decide to regret it (crazy I know since as your dead you can't regret anything but you hear these stories from unsuccessful sucides and theyre glad it didn't work as they reliezed that they actually don't want to die)it will be alright as he was lucky em=nought to be loved by the person he's leaving behind.

   This is what Dave said
   "Still is probably the first song I ever wrote that comes close to any sort of storytelling. It's about my being a kid, going to the lake by my house on a Saturday morning and seeing all these ambulances and fire trucks because someone decided to kill himself by sitting on the train tracks. When you're a child, you're so naive, you have no idea what's really going on, and you start to explore and find yourself playing with pieces of the....it's a pretty gory story, actually, but it happened."

   It's definitely about suicide but the part I don't understand is last line in the chorus :

   Nevermind what's done is done

   How is he the lucky one?

   From what I’ve heard, it is from a serial killers perspective, and he is about to kill himself because he got caught.

   In the beginning it has a twilight sound to it.In my opinion it is not about death at all but about moving forward in a dysfunctional love relationship. Overcoming the obstacles and not getting on the train and leaving.
   Metaphorically he wants her to spend just a little more time to forgive their issues.
   He wants to lead her into life with him,bringing change up to the bridge is change of mind to forgive what has been done. He says bring alcohol, which is usually used to let yourself relax and celebrate.
   The final fall is symbolism for completely committing to the other one and falling together. The ooo's are symbolism of how scared two lovers can feel being so vulnerable falling in love. He wants them to make a promise to be forever and not to back out anymore. No more doubts about the love they have.
   What's done is done and he feels like he is the lucky one and it always works out in the end.He wants her to trust him again despite the pain they cause one another.
   His own minds perspective of seeing the relationship rise out of darkness into sunrise. He is sitting on the tracks, he is the only holding himself back from love with her. The train comes past and he doesn't get on or get in the way and kill love this time. He decided to get up and lay next to the roaring train listening to it leave as a symbolism of his chance to runaway or stand in the way anymore. Everything is peaceful. What was said to hurt the other one is scattered and no longer apart of the love they have. Old saying "Sticks an stones may break my bones but words can never hurt me."
   Then he again addresses to request a promise he will be the only one, and for her to leave the past behind as he has and they are lucky to have found true love despite all their childhood insecurities and fears of being alone. It is a empowering song about love and devotion not death or suicide. I guess metaphorically he is letting his old insecure self die and believing in himself an love again.

   Dave Grohl when he was a kid apparently had a kid commit suicide on the train tracks in his town. This song is all about someone wanting to kill themselves and it just has this very sad and deep feeling about it.
