All the Pretty Girls Lyrics

All the pretty girls on a Saturday night
So I call your name, cross my fingers, uncrossed the others, hesitate, oh, I don't think straight, with nothing to prove

I don't wanna say I'm leaving,
I'll stay until the weekend, you can't take all...

It's about an ex that no other girl he goes after to make himself feel better (one-night stands, short relationships in succession) lives up to in his mind. He thinks they're alright until he actually gets to know them, at which point he tries to escape to find HER again. "what's a boy to do when all the pretty girls can't measure to you" this is in reference to Her not himself.

I really like the idea of the song being about a guy who is in love with another guy, but who is in denial about it. There are little things in the song that could give this impression, like the line "I don't think straight". While I doubt that Nate meant for the song to be interpreted this way, I think it's an interesting way to look at it. "All the pretty girls can't measure to you" could mean that the singer likes another guy. One of my guy friends sang this for a pride event and it gave a whole new meaning to the song.

I feel this song could possibly be representing a situation where Nate loves a girl who is rejecting him, so he gives up and talks about her flaws and builds up "all the pretty girls." Then he admits he can't get over her, no matter how much he doesn't want to, and talks about how none of "the pretty girls" could measure of up to her.

Nate cares about a girl but is in denial so he is having a go at her talking about all her flaws but eventually admits he needs her.

I think this song is about how a girl is really confusing Nate. And there may be more. I think that Nate seems scared to commit to relationships(I love Nate, but that's what I think. Sorry Nate!) so he's not sure how things are gonna go- "Will you break and take all the words from my mouth?" He probably has other options too- "But not you, you stick with boots and your hair is too long, and then this one doesn't wanna admit she's falling in love//"But not you, I think your faith is destroying the world, and then this one, never really understood the 80's are over and done…" So yeah, he's confused and scared. Well, that's my opinion.
