   I was 15 and my first boyfriend played this to me and it became ‘our song’. At the time I only really took notice of the chorus which was sweet. However the arrangement and music really evokes deep emotions... now nearly 38 years later, it was playing on my Alexa and I was suddenly transported back to that time... when everyone I loved was still alive and life was ‘safe’, secure and cosy... I could not stop crying because of the mixture of emotions it stirred up in me and for the first time, I really listened to those lyrics and felt the most profound connection with my Mum who I was so very close to and who passed away four years ago... I can’t see her but I can feel her... she walks in my dreams every night since she died and I definitely feel her guidance and protection by day..... I feel my life is blessed and she is driving it from wherever she is.... it was as if the song and lyrics were just about that- the sea, the ship are my life... we always have to leave people behind as we go through life and it is always sad. I think this very special song can be interpreted to mean different things to different people, but for me, this is what I feel it’s meaning is.... it is about moving through life and acknowkedging that one guiding influence in your life- it can relate to God, a child, a parent, lover or friend... it can be about someone who is alive but not with you in the physical sense or about someone who meant the world but has now died- but whoever the person is- they are the guiding light and inspiration in the life of the person singing the song x
