   Shotgun is simply the front passenger seat of the car. Traditionally the seat next to the driver on the stage coach is the one carrying the weapon for defense... In this context George is enjoying a ride looking around and enjoying himself without having to worry about driving...

   Home grown alligator refers to home grown weed
   
   A lot of people say it's about Australia or South Africa because of the reference south of the equator but the singer said it was about his holiday in Barcelona, sun and palm trees. Personally I heard a friend saying yellow and green are two types of weed so the song might be about getting high and relax but also feel high (riding shotgun) rather than the interpretation of the passenger seat.
   I guess because the song isn't clear but vague then each person interpret it as they see fit.

   I would say this song is about Australia because of the south of equator reference and 'time flies by in the yellow and green' which are the aussie colours. But imma bit confused because 'shotgun' is most certainly NOT an Australian phrase - we don't say that down under. But the guy also says 'architecture unfamiliar' which leads me to think that he is not familiar with his surroundings much like a tourist - so maybe this is some guy from the US holidaying down under.

   It is obviously abot Austrlia. He says south of the equator (which is where australia is located) and he says yellow and green alot (which australia's colours.
