George Harrison: All Things Must Pass Meaning

All Things Must Pass Lyrics

Sunrise doesn't last all morning,
a cloudburst doesn't last all day.
Seems my love is up
and has left you with no warning.
It's not always going to be this grey.

All things must pass,
all things must pass away.

Sunset doesn't last all...

George did not write this song after his mother died or as a tribute to her - he had actually written the song back in 1968 and Mrs. Harrison, Sr. was still alive.
I really like the 1969 demo version, as heard on "Anthology 3", as it is stripped down to basics of just George's falsetto voice and his phenomenal guitar work employing the use of tremolo.

So many know “Rage! Rage! against the dying of a light but, may not know Dylan Thomas also put forth in preface to it many refrains like, “Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight, And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way.” So often..., too often..., we recognize something so good, and even we maybe surmise it as too good, and we mourn it leaving, we lament..., As did Dylan Thomas we list things like our last words to mom, or last kiss with the love of our life. We Lament aging, change, and mortality. “Father Time is undefeated.“

A realistic song by George Harrison in the circle of life and death that rose with a huge smoke ring around it to be embedded in reality after his Mom's death to make his Dad and him feel a little better. Also all for us when getting stuck up with our feelings in the clouds of euphoria that formed our thoughts within the created artificial reality. In that, when one comes down from it[the euphoria] unprepared, this can leave you depressed and sad, but with hope in wisdom and patience to know ''All Things Must Pass''

Funny anyone imagining that we are immortal, that life will go on forever. At 4 years old, my Aunt had Queenie a cat that died. It was DEAD, not returning. ALL my grandparents were dead. Never to be seen except in old grey photos. Sunrise and Sunset are heavily impressive visuals from earth that last but a few moments. A brilliant white Cloud Burst against shimmering Blue sky appears as if it has birthed a life, transforms throughout the day, (it's life) then fades into nothingness (dies). My life is up and has left you with no warning. (John is passing and is sad for us)
The sadness will wear off and things will be acceptable once more. A reminder that everything is not permanent.
Personally: Grow up catholic and you realize that YOU'RE GOING TO DIE AND YOU ARE GOING TO HELL ! ! !
How else could I be so Cheery ?

i believe this song was written after the death of his mother, whom he was very close to. This could have been the first realization that he was a mere mortal and that nothing last forever. We all at times, feel that we are immortal, like this life will go on forever. Its not hard to think that way when youre young, and have family and friends around, but eventually, those who are close to you begin to pass, and at some point it hits you like a brick. i will someday pass away.
I believe that his mothers passing had that type of profound affect on him.
of coures, thats just my opinion and i could be wrong
