Slide Lyrics

Could you whisper in my ear
The things you wanna feel
I'll give you anything
To feel it comin'

Do you wake up on your own
And wonder where you are
You live with all your faults

Chorus:
I wanna wake up where you are
I won't say...

The song is about a girl who gets pregnant, and she is disowned by her parents for it. She has an abortion, and feels terrible about it, And her boyfriend wants her to "let it slide". even though they made a mistake, and he's saying they can simply "Get married or run away." and everything will be fine.

Lead singer and guitarist Johnny Rzeznik wrote this song, which is about a girl who has an abortion. Her boyfriend is being very supportive, declaring his love for her and asking her to just "let it slide" and move on with their lives. >>
Rzeznik said of this before performing it on VH1 Storytellers: "The song is actually about these two teenage kids, and the girlfriend gets pregnant, and they're trying to decide whether she should get an abortion, or they should get married or what should go on..." >>

I answered BTR's Worldwide is a sequel to this song. Nobody but me has figured that.

Johnny explained the song on VH1's Storytellers. Teens in love, the girl gets pregnant. What to do? Have an abortion or get married and have the baby? John grew up in a working class neighborhood - Catholic, Polish, traditional, etc. A lot of his songs, especially the early ones, reflect that - by that I mean around 2002 and earlier or thereabouts.

I think this song is about a two guys that are gay. No one approves since the ma and dad seem to be ashamed and their is a priest involved and that would make sense some churchs are against homosexuals. But they dont care what others think and let slide and be together.

In my opinion this song is about a girl who is pregnant and when it says'dont you love the life you killed' it means she killed her dreams her future.(now she is pregnant)and 'do you wake up on your own and wonder where you are'.is just saying her life has made a complete change and she doesnt even known where life is taking her. 'you live with all your faults' she feels like she could had change her future. And now her bf is saying to let it slide(just continue on in life)and if she wants to get married or run away.

Slide is about a young couple who get an abortion. The girl is scared and holding back from her boyfriend who is telling her it'll be okay. "Don't you love the life you killed; the priest is on the phone; your father hit the wall; your ma disowned you." Her parents obviously don't agree with her decision. "I guess I'll never know what it means to be a man, it's something I can't change, I'll live around it." Be a man, as in become a father. Since the baby is no longer there, he's saying he'll live anyway. He's supporting the girl, begging her to open up to him but she keeps running away, "Do you wake up on your own, and wonder where you are"/at the end "Yeah, slide between the sheets of all the beds you never knew." He's reaching out to her, asking if she wants to get married or runaway together. He just wants to be with her but she keeps pulling away. "Slide" simply means let the situation go and move forward.

I think this song could be about abortion from various lines ("don't you love the life you killed?" and "do you wake up on your own and wonder where you are and live with all your faults?"). I think he is the boyfriend who got his girlfriend pregnant, and now he is her only support ("The priest is on the phone. Your father hit the wall. Your ma disowned you"). Even though they've gone through a lot of tough issues, he loves her more than anything in the world, as displayed by the chorus.

Honestly people, could there be another person on God's green earth that could put into words "I'd do anything you ever dreamed to be complete, little pieces of nothin that fall" than a guy who just lost his wife. His name is Joe McMahon. That was in early 1993. The lyrics came from him through Mark Parsons

I think that "Slide" means sex because that is what we use for sex, and I think that they "slid" so she got an abortion, her parents disowned her and her boyfriend is supporting her and asking her to get married, also I think her name is may

Hmm I didn't think the song is about a girl who gets an abortion and/or pregnancy, although I can see why some might interpret that way, and its interesting cause now that would makes since... but I think the whole song is about a girl who is in love with a guy that changes how she acts ' don't you love the life you killed' I think is referring to her own life, she's changed from a sweet innocent girl to someone who is carelessly in love, and the part about 'father hit the wall mom disowned you' is how her parents are reacting to her choice to run away with her bf... So now they are going to 'slide' or runaway, from their old life and start new ones....

it's about the girl gets prego and her parents disown her and it's reflecting all the possibilities and choices her and her bf can do like the whole "love the life you kill" part...abortion IS a CHOICE but if u read more in depth it says get married and runaway so its just saying abortion is a choice NOT tht thts wat happened...the main thing reflected on IS runaway...

It's about a couple and their respective lives they each must compromise to be with one another. The "slide" part, I believe, is just a playful acknowledgement of despite having been "disowned by their parents" and "the life you killed",they are able to engage in the simple yet important action of physical proximity, hence "slide", as in slide on over closer to me, I wanna wake up next to you.
