The Warmth Lyrics

I'd like to close my eyes, go numb
but there's a cold wind coming from
the top of the highest high-rise today.
It's not a breeze 'cause it blows hard.
Yes and it wants me to discard the humanity I know,
watch the warmth blow away.

So...

This song is clearly about loving the ones around you. Taking in the goodness life has to offer such as family and friends.

Experience the Warmth most likely means experiencing the warmth of love from others. The warm feeling you get when you're with people you love. SO he's saying experience this "warmth" before you get old and die.

Not every song is about smoking pot. Come on now. It's much deeper than that.

To the person who said, "It's about the World Trade Center attack, clearly." This album came out in 1999 and the 9/11 attacks happened on September 11, 2001. So this song is very clearly not about the World Trade Center.

I've loved this song ever since I bought the CD after it was released in my sophomore year of high school. I've always felt that the song is about being happy and living your life to the fullest, despite all the crappy things going on in the world.

This song is about Brandon's heroin addiction and how he views its as ok even though it goes against the ideals of modern society. It's almost as if he is peer pressuring you into trying it as well.

It fits in perfectly with the rest of the album, as it is a song about (or rather a call out to) resistance against authority and mainstream thoughts and actions. The first verse briefly mentions this as

"there's a cold wind coming from
the top of the highest high-rise today"

which are clearly the statements, laws or any other "restriction" imposed by rulers, presidents or parliaments.

"It's not a breeze 'cause it blows hard.
Yes and it wants me to discard the humanity I know,
    watch the warmth blow away"

And it tells Brandon to act in a way he does not approve, since it goes against his view on humanity.
The chorus is his inner voice (or best friend whatever) telling him to ignore those statements and directions. Rather focus on people who do have love for one another. It (he) even tells him to think about the reason why is being put on this world: To spread and receive love and warmth.

The second verse is his reply to the person or inner voice, which consists solely of questions about how to act, what to do.
And at the end of the song he ends up in the same place where he started. Wondering where the warmth of the people (including presidents, dictators etc.) has gone.

    That's my 2 cents anyway.

I think it's about doing cocaine. Seriously. or, rather, not doing it.

The Warmth, IMO refers to the feeling that one gets from using marijuana and how it changes you.

"I'd like to close my eyes, go numb"

"So don't let the world bring you down." - Referring how marijuana puts people in a better mood.

"Not everyone here is that fucked up and cold."- May refer to whom this song was influenced by, a friend or ex- girlfriend.

"Remember why you came and while you're alive"- Don't loose your motivation in life, and don't let anyone bring you down

"experience the warmth before you grow old." - "The warmth" may be refer to the comforting calmness that marijuana gives you.

"Or should I hold my head up high
and throw a wrench in spokes by
leaving the air behind me clear?"
    - May refer to getting high and temporarily forgetting everyday problems

At the end of the song, Brandon repeats "Where did it go?" 4 times. This may be a reference of the effects of the drug wearing off, wondering where the high that he had from it went.

This is just the interpretation I got from the song. It could be completely off, so don't take it to heart.
