Turn to Stone Lyrics

Let's take a better look
beyond a story book
And learn our souls are all we own
before we turn to stone

Let's go to sleep with clearer heads
and hearts too big to fit our beds
And maybe we won't feel so alone
before we turn to stone

And if you...

The song sends a powerful message that every individual is capable of contributing to world peace by simply atoning - making amends in one's personal relationships. Waiting for someone else's hand; that is, waiting for someone else to take action is to accept powerlessness. We must accept responsibility for our own actions, conscience, and intetions - "our souls are all we own". Yes, "there's so much more than me and you", but the problem is not bigger than the individual. We are the place where peace begins - in our personal relationships.

The first verse, is a request to take a moment to talk about the reality of the relationship, and not view it as a fairytale, where you see things through rose colored glasses. The reality of what your doing to contribute to the failure or success of your life, must be done as soon as possible before you die. Before you meet your maker, so that you can make amends for the ignorance, hate, hurt, failures, defeat, revenge, brutality or any lack of human compassion or contributions you made of lies, accusations against an innocent life.
Going to bed with a clearer head, and hearts too big to fill out bed... it's that it is necessary to forgive, ask for forgiveness, be pure of heart and soul in case you don't wake up, and meet your maker the decision of heaven or hell will be secured. Oh baby how we must atone before we turn to stone.

This song means that you need to fix things before it is to late. They need to make sure that they make things right before they die or can not move in the position they are put into.

Personally, I thought, because of the opening lines "let's take a better look/beyond our storybook" that this song was about religion, perhaps particularly Christianity and such variants, the Bible being the "storybook", and the song goes on to explain about how religion isn't meant to be taken literally, that it should be used as a tool to help better yourself and your view on the world "and learn our souls are all we own", "Let's go to sleep with clearer heads/and hearts too big to fit our beds"; she says how it shouldn't be taken seriously with "and if you wait for someone else's hand/(If you wait for someone else's hand)/then you will surely fall down".
This is just my opinion, don't take offence!

I agree, I also the one she shouldnt be in love with is her brother...and she leaves that out until the end to keep you wondering why she cant be in love with this person. Very deep song!

This interpretation has been marked as poor. view anyway

I think this song is about two people who are in love when they aren't supposed to be. Like Romeo and Juliet. It talks about one lover being ashamed, or guilty, while the singer is telling him/her not to be (let's go to bed with clearer heads). The part about 'before we turn to stone' means before they get caught or die or something. In the end, the singer is telling his/her lover that they can't wait, because he/she won't wait for them and that if they wait for someone else to love, they will fail.
