Same Mistake Lyrics

Saw the world turning in my sheets and once again I cannot sleep.
Walk out the door and up the street; look at the stars beneath my feet.
Remember rights that I did wrong, so here I go.

Hello, hello. There is no place I cannot go.
My mind...

Mistakes are quite common to happen and we all do support ourselves at the time we are committing those mistakes. but when we give it a second thought we realize that it might be me making the mistake not the person whom i was blaming from the very beginning. The exact same words are here reflected with a musical delight.
here James remembers how he did wrong and supported it to be right-'remember rights that i did wrong' so now he realizes it and feels sorry hence his mind is 'muddy', and with repent his mind is heavy. But yet he questions whether his sorrow is guarded by his ego 'my heart is heavy. Does it show?'. And he continues blaming himself.

He feels that he is not worthy of having such chances. As he asks himself who should he blame his inner-self also speaks that he is the one to be blamed.
'Said he'd seen my enemy. Said he looked just like me,'

He knows may be once again they will meet but he never wants himself to be trusted because he knows about his deceiving nature and doesnt want any one to be harmed by it. So he warns that none should buy his promises. He being so much engulfed by shame he cant stand even himself. He can feel that he is falling down. But he wonders where did he go wrong. Through the commonest of the mans attitude he exemplifies a very true fact.

    It's very clear:

In 1999, Blunt volunteered to join a Blues and Royals squadron deploying with NATO to Kosovo. Initially assigned to carry out reconnaissance of the North Macedonia–Yugoslavia border, Blunt's troop worked ahead of the front lines, locating and targeting Serbian forces for the NATO bombing campaign.

He's suffering from post traumatic syndrom (he could not sleep) ...my enemy... looked just like me
...my reflection troubles me...I'm screaming at the top of my voice...give me reason, but don't give me choice.

If you are targeting Serbian forces for bombing you are killing people, you choose who will live and who won't. I don't want to have this choice.

This is probably a song about a man/woman battling with drugs addiction.

    Sleepless nights
Takes a walk down the street
Stars under his feet means he's high
Broken promises of not going back.
Looking for reason to stop, not choice (alternative)
At the end, he wonders where he went wrong (means letting himself get so consumed).

    My opinion though.

What might truly mean is that he’s not happy with his life and relationship, keeping him awake at night to make a decision (or not making one at the same time). His mind is full of thoughts and he finally got the real idea of what he’s going through... He found the side of him that’s better out in the world and free, but he did not have courage before to tell anything and here he (finally) goes, as said in the lyrics. He goes out at night, and he is his own enemy for going out alone and hidden to enjoy and meet his friends and other girls. Given that, he won’t ask for a second chance to his girlfriend because he has no doubt he wants to be alone and have no responsibilities over a relationship, he’s suffocating with his relationship, that’s why he says he’s screaming at the top of his voice and asks that she asks for a reason instead of a second chance because he already decided what he wants for his life and that he would make the “same mistake again” if asked for another chance. He says that he hopes someday they might get along, something that they don’t do in their relationship, and mentions that she can’t get attached to the promises he did before because he won’t keep any of them. He’s actually pulling all things that were suffocating him out of his mouth finally. And finally he asks himself why he ended up being this way, because he knows that it he’s difficult and he probably considers himself a terrible person for doing that to his girlfriend.

I won't try to place a particular meaning to a song, because a great song can have a special meaning to each listener. However, from the perspective of James, he has been faced with the responsibility for making decisions regarding the fate of men's lives during his time in the military. I believe this song speaks a little bit to the consequences of making big life or death decisions, especially the consequences to James' conscience.

I feel as if this song is about a man who is struggling with addiction and thoughts of suicide. He is battling with himself over the person he feels he should be versus the reality of who he has become. He doesn’t keep promises... he lies awake at night... he doesn’t like who he is... the stars have all fallen. But to the world it appears he has it all together... the stars are beneath his feet. Although his soul is screaming for another chance at his life... he fears he would just go down the same road. Very deep and powerful song.

He's failed at something we all fail at eventually when given the chance and feels bad he couldn't take the chance he was given to change what he blames the person giving him the chance of doing a bad job of and although he would love another knows he's only likely to do the same thing as when it comes to it he tries his best and always fails

I think James is battling with his conscience in this song. All his inner turmoil that keeps him awake are in his head. He tries to figure out what it may be, only to find out that he is the reason for his restlessness. He indicates that he cannot be trusted to make a good decision so he would rather not be placed in such a position.

    Beautiful song.

Pritam pretty much hit it on the head with his interpretation. On the second stanza he says "so I sent some men to fight, and one came back in dead of night, said he saw my enemy, said he looked just like me, so I set out to cut myself, and here I go." I think the men he set out to fight represent his inner conflict with his own identity, the one who came back in dead of night (unannounced and unexpected, was his conscience telling him he's wrong although he feels in the right. His enemy looks like him because it is him, so he sets out to cut himself. Means he will destroy the good conscience, to prove himself right to himself, when in reality he's wrong. And this is the reason he keeps making the same mistake.

This song is INCREDIBLY deep, it sometimes brings tears to my eyes. I think it's one of the most beautiful and poetic works of art that exist. So much emotion/experience/intelligence/and talent is combined in this song. It just makes it...... A FLAWLESS work of art!

I always think some sort of powerfull politician when I here this song... kind of a literal interpretation but it makes sense to me picturing a regretfull politian that sent men to war and can't sleep over it. Particularly the phrase "give me reason, but don't give me choice" becomes meaningfull and introspective as the character wants to be forgiven/respected but secretly knows it can't be trusted the same kind of power again...

To literal? I guess, but still it makes the song sound awesome to me...

If you don't get where this song is coming from then I am envious of you.

I've done things that make me feel this way and I've said things to loved ones, things I really honestly wanted to be true, things I hoped I could make true but which turned out to be lies. The line about "talking and not just speaking" reminds me of those relationship where both sides are so busy spilling out there hearts and hoping the other person is what they're hoping for that they don't listen to what the other is saying.

The line "don't buy the promises 'cause there are no promises I keep" remind me very much of how I feel about myself sometimes.
