John Lennon: Imagine Meaning
Song Released: 1971
Imagine Lyrics
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today
Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the...

This whole song describes the true qualities of communism. you may think of corruption when you hear the word "communism" but this song is about what REAL communism is truely all about.
-
I think the song is asking you to imagine a world without prejudice, a world made of peace and only peace, with no goverment, possesisions, or hate
-
This song will one day become reality. That is all there is to it.

It's about marxism. The song is, word by word, a description of a marxist utopia, with no possessions or religion, without hunger and countries. By saying there are no countries he is implying that one unique and central government with unlimited power will rule us all (1984 much) under wich we're all equal, "a brotherhood of man". "Nothing to kill or die for" refers to the end of all different ideas, being that everyone agrees in marxism. John Lennon was part of a musical group with unlimited fame and money. He never suffered or even saw suffering, turning him into a filthy liberal that believes in some fairytale bullshit.

It's simple really. Imagine, living as one. No fights, no war. A anonymous said on the 24th June 2007, Religous beliefs are not the cause of war. But they can be. Religion is the cause of a lot of things, not all good, but I agree with the point on money. Imagine if there was no money, no possesions, no rich, no poor. What a wonderful world that would be. But it would never happen, greed is part of what makes us human. To me the world human means a faulted being, so what Lennon is suggesting is an alien breed. If only...

Here are my thoughts on the song:
Imagine there's no Heaven
It's easy if you try
No Hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today
This is talking about people being too concerned about outer things, and not focusing on there own lives or anyone around them.
Imagine there's no country
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
No religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace
This is a very important lesson in today's world. America's excuse for war is "We're doing it for God." Another issue is that we seperate everyone beacause of where they live and what religion they are. If we just put those things aside, there wouldn't be war. -
This song is a manifesto. You see, the sad reality of material existence, is that it is like taking billions of photographs of a tree and thinking each photograph is of a different tree that is better. There is only a very small section of humanity that understands this very obvious point. That WE are divine and WE come from ONE source with the ability to display polarity and the balance (being wisdom) The rest are rapidly expanding into an infinity and it's unending obscurity... unaware infinity means...infinity. We love them despite their inability to comprehend themselves and one day we will all realize we are just ONE - but unable to perceive this. That day we will need no religion or law or division or structure or identity, to know we already exist in order, one, humane love - for all material existence. To foster it's existence, assist it's unity, and join us at the source. Lennon understood this, as did Einstein, and many other gifted with the capacity to stay balanced in LOVE.
May you find enlightenment. Thank you for Reading. Dokotela. -
The song sounds so good, but its all about imagining. what about the reality where even your very own sister or brother is different from what you are? and worst you cant even convince. Or when you cannot even adjust yourself with her difference. How many years will it take for this wisher of imagine to keep explaining his idea or in word or in letter for all the people in the world to be at one in his perception of a single world of paradise where people do not even talk or debate in all the matters of life. just smiling at one another, working together. And all waiting for the hour of death. it will require warring with someone who believes in his religion. The price to pay is bloodshed to make all people on earth as a flat one brain.

The song is pleasing to the ears with a mild and melodic tune. Lennon's voice is soft and reassuring with a certain type of warmth and gentleness. That's where the songs positive attributes end for me.
The very first line of the song is an attack on religion almost as if he's telling people to stop asking the oldest question in the world. "Why are we here and where did we come from?"
I have no problem with those who choose to be athiest or agnostic, but let's call it like he says it. "Imagine there's no Heaven." Imagine life without God or for me...Imagine life without Christ. So the song starts out with an anti-Christian overtone for me PERSONALLY.
He follows that up with "Imagine all the people living for today." Easy for John Lennon to do when he had more money than he could ever spend. What message is he sending to us working class stiffs? Just live for today and everything will be fine? Gimme a break. Why don't we all go out and plant a tree while we're at it.
So now that Lennon has suggested we removed God from our lives and simply live within the moment. He goes on to imagine live without boarders. Give up aligence to the system and embrace one world, one people, communal living, no responsibility socialistic lifestyle. I guess that by doing this, we will then receive total enlightenment (without God) and then decide to all live in peace. The problem that I have with this verse is that Lennon is now describing "HEAVEN" which is what he asked us to "IMAGINE" didn't exist!!! Just some more idealistic, touchy-feely blah blah blah!
His chorus is the only part of the song that seems to wake up out of this dreamy, make believe, fairy tale that he sings about. That is when he calls himself a "Dreamer". To me, the meaning of the song is that we need to embrace the realities of the world. A world that will never change...but we can still dream!!! -
Imagine: Lyrics Bill Maher would have written if he had talent.
-
In my opinion, this world is hell, and there never will be a Utopia here. Yes, poor John... he was a DREAMER! Period. Too bad he himself, rarely lived up to what he sang about. I still loved his music though. ;-)
