You're Gonna Live Forever In Me Lyrics

A great big bang and dinosaurs
Fiery raining meteors
It all ends unfortunately

But you're gonna live forever in me
I'll guarantee, just wait and see

Parts of me were made by you
And planets keep their distance too
The moon's got a grip...

This song is about losing Katy Perry. He truly loves her and she helped him grow but again, he messed up. This song is about letting her go and he is letting her know he will be happy if she is happy. He wanted to get married and settle down with her and she didn't want that. He knows one day she will get married and when that day comes he won't object but she needs to know she will live forever in him.

I’m sure this song displays his feelings towards a lover lost due to difference of direction as evident in the last verse, but recently, I found a new meaning…

I recently lost a father during the holidays and ran across this song while cleaning. While knowing the lyrics to it well before that moment, a chill rushed over me and I paused in time to listen to the lyrics more closely.

“You’re going to live forever in me” hit a little deeper. “Parts of me was made by you” is so true. “And when the pastor asks the pew, for reasons he can’t marry you,” were me granting him his wish to peacefully marry his second wife.

He’s going to live forever in me, I guarantee.

It’s God. We will live forever in God. - or higher power, universe, whatever you might call it.

Eternal and timeless, going back to the great Big Bang and dinosaurs...
Nothing lasts, but we can live forever in God.
We can make mistakes and it’s still okay, still our destiny.
Love is a good mistake, as you have tried.

The rules of religion or in the church - they aren’t God’s choices. He will keep quiet and might not agree. Perhaps regarding who is permitted to be married. He is more accepting and lets all live forever in Him.

    Just wait and see...

You're Gonna Live Forever in Me is a song I just discovered today (4/14/2017). I heard it on a youtube search of the tributes to the deceased Charlie Murphy, in which Dave Chappella requested John Mayer to do the song in memory of Charlie Murphy. Initially I thought it was about the death of a love one. However because of the verse of the song that states, 'And the pastor ask the pews for the reason he can't marry you I'll keep my word in my seat', I now believe the song is about a person who never told the love of their life how they really feel. They have been 'friends' and the person is lamenting about how the opportunity to take the relationship in a different direction is coming to an end. Now the love of their life is marrying someone else and they are saying through the song that despite the fact they accept they are marrying someone else, they will still love them forever. Chris Rock's friend zone has claimed another victim.
