All The Pretty Girls Lyrics

All the pretty girls like Samuel

I think it’s about saying goodbye to a girl who is in love with Samuel. While the main lyric “won’t you lay me down” could be taken sexually, especially at the end when he says he will wait to be laid down, I don’t think it’s that. I think of it more in the way that we lay down our favorite childhood item down for the last time as we grow up. He’s not waiting for her, he’s waiting for a goodbye.

I know it might not be a popular opinion, but I somewhat felt like the "character" in the song was in love with Samuel, singing in irony envying the pretty girls around him more than him wanting one of the girls.

Listening to the lyrics, 'All The Pretty Girls' is a rather bleak sounding song. They are not finding love or relationships. 'Samuel' has more luck finding love. Although much of lyrics sound bleak, the instrumentation makes the song sound a lot more upbeat and the ever repeated lyrics "won't you lay me down?" brings a more hopeful twist to the song. Optimistic that he will one day find love.

According to an interview with artistdirect.com, the song was written more to provoke the feeling of spring and summer.
JJ also described the song as "relaxed and easygoing. That's everything the song is about."
