Dig Me Lyrics

It's here I sit and rust amid this ruin and rancor like tire irons
toothy grills and car parts before me...the acid rain floods my
floorboard, burns my pores, and rots my upholstry.. once I was
worshipped, polished magnificently, now I lay in...

The entire album refers to the "Beat" poets. This could be the car from the opening song Neal and Jack and Me. Me is the car.

This song is the lament of a once-shiny, sleek sports car that is now an old, rusty, heap sitting in a junkyard.

Just as an elderly person may still feel like a kid inside, this old clunker still feels like a hot rod, and dreams of getting back on the highway.

Lyricist/vocalist Adrian Belew is fond of wordplay. In this case, the words "dig" and "bury" are related, as they're both things you do with a shovel. "Dig" is also a slang word for "like" or "love."

The car is pleading for SOMEBODY to love him and drive him again, before he gets put in the metal compactor and buried forever.
