The song "Neal and Jack and Me" is on King Crimson's "Beat" album. And so, it's appropriate that the song is a tribute to some of the literary heroes of the Beat movement.
"Jack," of course, is Jack Kerouac, author of "On the Road." Neal is Neal Cassady, the eccentric friend on whom Kerouac based Dean Moriarty, the protagonist of "On the Road."
The entire song reflects lyricist Adrian Belew's fantasies of joining Kerouac and Cassady on a car trip across the United States, or on a tour of the seedy underside of Paris.
