13 Beaches Lyrics

I don't belong in the world
But that's what it is
Something separates me from other people

Everywhere I turn
There's something blocking my escape
It took thirteen beaches to find one empty
But finally it's mine

With dripping...

Lana started writing this song with the fact that she had to search 13 beaches to find one without any paparazzi. She just wanted to be alone and relax. I think she found the situation so suspicious that she wrote the beginning of this song from it.

But I think there is much more to say about this masterpiece.

"I don`t belong in the world; But that`s what it is; Something seperates me from other people; Everywhere I turn; There´s something blocking my escape"

This contains of the 1962 horror movie "Carnival Of Souls" but I even think it means more to her. She isn`t feeling good in this world and wish she were somewhere else. She faces the facts and she seems to feel different. And she seems like she wants to escape but she can´t.

"It took 13 beaches to find one empty; But finally it´s mine; With dripping peaches; I`m camera ready; almost all the time"

This part is related to her daily life as a singer and shows us that Lana has no choice: she has to be camera ready every time and in my opinion the stanza is quite meaningful. I zhink every singer or famous person can relate to it. You don`t have a place on your own in public- everywhere are fans and paparazzis what means that you never be alone. I think this is a big issue for some of them. Most people don´t get it; they are still thinking that being famous and successful it not hard at all and they just should be happy with all their money and fame. Thy just don`t understand how lonely, depressing and tiring a life of a famous person could be.

"But I still get lonely; And baby, only then do I let myself recline; Can I let go? And let your memory dance; In the ballroom of my mind; Across the country line"

In this part she mentions that she still get lonely. Maybe because they are thinking that she has many people around her and should be hppy but she isn`t. She can find new thoughts and seems to be thinking a lot. It seems also to be clear that she is missing someone who is far away from her (maybe in another country). She is also wondering if she can let go: I think she can`t get away from the memories and can´t stop missing that person.

"It hurts to love you, but I still love you; It´s just the way I feel; And I´d be lying if I kept hinding; The fact that I can`t deal; And that I`ve been dying; For something real"

She is loving a person and can`t let him/her go. It feels like she is dying and I think these are perfect words to describe it. She can`t deal with this situation and is describing all her pain in this part. I don´t think that this part is exaggerated because I honestly can feel her suffering.

"It took 13 beaches to find one empty; But finally , I´m fine; Past Ventura and lenses plenty; In the white sunshine"

In this part she mentions that she is feeling better because she is remembering past ventura and thinks of past good times. After suffering a lot it finds an end and be able to think of the good old times they had together. And maybe it took 13 beaches to be at this point. I think maybe Lana tried to cope with it by going to the beach a few times and think of it, feeeling free to remember him/her and tried to clear her mind.

"But you still can find me, if you ask nicely; Underneath the pines; With the daisies, feeling hazy; In the ballroom of my mind; Across the country line"

I think in this part she refers to her feelings: he/her can always come back to her an she would live on. She is trying to expres that this person is always and will always will be welcome in her life. She seems to feel dismal and dreary when she is thinking abou him/her.

That was my interpretation of this wonderful song and I hope y´all are doing well and liked my opinion about this song.

"I wrote the song ‘13 Beaches’ to tell how last summer I had to search 13 beaches before finding one without the paparazzi, where I could sit and read a book… But we get used to it. Maybe the game is worth the candle."

The intro of the song contains a vocal sample from the 1962 horror movie Carnival Of Souls
